I got a Q6600 that is oced to 3.0ghz on a Logysis Alpha Cooler. -

I live in Wisconsin and this time of year it gets pretty cold. Will it be okay to overclock the cpu to almost 4 ghz leaving the windows open?

Read the OC guide, keep the voltage/heat under control and stress test and make sure everything is stable and your fine. If you have to keep a window open to try to keep your PC cool the answer is NO your not fine.

Off hand hitting 4ghz may be a bit more of a challenge on the q6600 and require quite a bit of voltage I remember most people hitting 3.6ghz quite easily though. I recomendation is to try to OC it as much as possible with as little voltage as possible or untill you hit a big gap where you have to bump up the voltage signifcantly more to make it stable and than back off a little.

For me my e2180 was able to hit 3ghz quite easily but any higher required a large jump in voltage so that was where I called it quits.

Remember Voltage and/or Heat= kills CPU life span
Voltage creates heat
Thus voltage very bad

And do us a favor and stess test your current setup and find out if it's stable and what the temp is at under load, and while your at it stress test your GPU so you create maxium heat.

Your highest core temperature is 88C, thats pretty much the limit. I would actually reduce the voltage or overclock to make it 80C or less since 88C is pretty dangerous for your CPU for long period of time.

Okay I see. I thought these temps were fine to run with. I will try to see what I can do for voltage but maybe just the overclock. Although they never get this high when I play bf3 xP. Just during the test.
