[SOLVED] Will PCIe 3.0 CPU bottleneck PCIe 4.0 SSD?

I'm looking to buy a Samsung 980 PRO SSD which is PCIe 4. I'd pair it with a Ryzen 5600G CPU because I want integrated graphics (not a gaming build). They'd go on an AM4 MOBO, but the thing is that the CPU is only PCIe 3.

My question is: will the PCIe 3 CPU "force" the PCIe 4 SSD to also function only at PCIe 3 capabilities?

Yes, a gen4 ssd operates at half the advertised speed when running at PCI-e3.0.

PCIe will only work as fast as the slowest thing between the slot or the device. But even then, for this, you're not going to see a practical performance difference. The only difference you'll see is in benchmarking apps.

The SSD can only run as fast as the BUS. No point in buying an 980 PRO IMHO if your doing a gen III build (nothing wrong with gen III IMHO).

You won't notice it.
