Will these components fit?

Hello everyone. I decided to upgrade my aging PC with some components that will carry over to my replacement pc, namely a sound card, 8 Gigs of Ram and an aftermarket fan.

What I had in mind was a Xonar DG or DX for the sound, 2x4GB of Corsair Vengeance and a fan along the lines of this (I want it so that I can overclock my processor a bit): http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Xigmatek/Aegir/4.html

My main issues are whether the sound card will fit at all, and whether the fan a) fits b) conflicts with the vengeance heat-sinks. Also would a water cooling system be better?

Motherboard: Asus p5q
CPU: Intel Q6600
GFX Card: Palit GTX275

Thats your Mobo specs. It uses DDR2 you would need to buy DDR2 RAM to upgrade, as this is has been passed over now with DDR3 you wouldnt be carrying this ram to a later build.

For a cooler just make sure its compatible with socket 775

Why a soundcard? Unless your a major audiophile you wont see huge change from onboard.

One clarification.... you see in the photo those 2 connectors on top your graphics card? You do normally plug them in?

DDR2 ram is also typically expensive because of lack of supply.... The only things you could purchase at this point which you might be able to carry to a new system would be a PSU and a GPU.

You'd be better off buying a cheapish mobo and an i3 or phenom II and some ddr3 then carrying over the other parts

Mobo, 8GB DDR3, i3 2100 = £160-ish ($240-ish)

Mobo, 8GB DDR3, Phenom II 965BE = £150-ish ($220-ish)

Τhanks for your replies! I'll probably put aside this project since I had stupidly assumed that my mobo supported ddr3 and didn't bother to check its' specifications.

I'll be away from my pc for around half a year so I'll fully upgrade it when I return.

Also, yes, these connectors are usually plugged in, otherwise I would be in the Graphic card forums complaining "OMG Y TEH GRAPHIX SUCKS?!"
