Is there a way to set a default for viewing Folders & Files within a main
folder.
i.e., I like to have "details" show and then view "by type" within the
folder.
I think it makes it easier to find a specific file when they are grouped
according
to their type.
Thanks in advance for the help !

Here's my general Folder Options advice:

1. Go to View menu in Explorer, Folder Options. Click on View tab. Check
"Show All Files", UNcheck "Hide extensions for known filetypes", UNcheck
"Remember each folder's view settings" (I know this sounds wrong, but
believe me, that function doesn't work as advertised.) Click OK.

2. Back in Explorer, set your View settings the way you want them to be
normally. (Note that this will cause all new instances of Explorer to
open folders in that View.) Then go back into Folder Options and click
on the button at top that says "Like Current Folder" (or whatever it
says.)

Thanks Gary. Just to clairify we are talking about the same folders and
files.
I am talking about the one in "My Documents" not Internet Explorer.

Common issue, Nancy. "Internet Explorer" is IEXPLORE.EXE and much more.
Explorer, as we commonly refer to it here, is "Windows Explorer" or
EXPLORER.EXE, and that's the program that runs when you open My
Documents. Actually, Explorer is what provides the Desktop, too. So it
is, in essence, always running. It's new instances of Explorer that give
you My Documents and other folder windows.

Our discussion has nothing to do with Internet Explorer *except* that
many of the underlying functions are shared by both. So, for instance,
upgrading, reinstalling or repairing IE is often the remedy for problems
in Windows Explorer. But all of the instructions I've given you are
talking about Windows Explorer.
