I'm trying to nerf Windows' aggressive virus quarantine process by setting "Turn off routine remediation" to "Enabled". This does nothing to stop Windows from automatically quarantining files. To add to my annoyance, the same files keep getting flagged despite my selecting "allow" in the protection window. I have to click the popup when it happens or the file will not be visible in protection history and I have to restore from backup. Setting "Turn on removal or items from scan folder" to "disabled" does not restore protection history, nor does resetting the app. How do I get control of this? (yes this is the administrator account)

Windows 10 Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400 CPU @ 2.90GHz, 2904 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB

i have the edu version which is basically enterprise/pro all rolled into one. i have turned off that entire stupid program suite multiple ways and it still runs, does whatever it wants to and refuses to go away no matter what i do.

even installing another AV which is supposed to turn off the built in one, does not stop it. my conclusion is there is no way to get it under control. well under your control anyway. it's def under the control of MS as is the rest of your windows pc.

That is unfortunate. Searches of this topic reveal that it's a thorn in the side of so many users. It's surprising that a reliable workaround hasn't been found.

It's very simple really. And it's a built in part of virus and threat protection. It doesn't need to be any sort of special Windows version. All versions including the basic home version have this ability.

Simply go into virus and threat protection, below "virus and threat protection settings" click on "manage settings". Scroll down to "Exclusions" and click on "Add or remove exclusions". Then select any folder that contains files that you do not ever want virus and threat protection to scan during any operations, scheduled scans or user initiated scans.

Be very aware though, when it flags something it's generally for a very good reason whether you believe so or not. So if you tell the system not to flag the folder those files are in, and it doesn't, and you're system turns into a puddle of piss, don't try to say you weren't warned. That being said there are a few, very few, occasions where it will flag something that's entirely innocuous.
