i have tons of photos on a windows xp laptop, they all show up fine on the laptop and on the usb that i copy them onto. If i put the usb into any windows 7 computer it corrupts half the photo with a color that was in the picture such as maroon, grey, etc. Then if i put the usb back in the xp laptop it is also corrupted there 😱

no, but if i copy it directly from the phone/camera it does work, but as I've said i don't have conclusive proof to see if the usb is broken since i can view the photos from the usb on windows xp before i plug the usb into windows 7

Ensure your windows 7 PC is virus/malware free. Do scan the Win 7 PC with Malwarebytes Anti malware scanner also run HerdProtect cloud scanner (68 engines) to clean any possible malware infections.

How about putting one of the photos online, Dropbox or Google Drive, then downloading it to the windows 7 PC. That wont necessarily prove it's the USB that the problem but it might be a solution.
I would suggest not uploading to something like FaceBook and then downloading them as it will compress the images but if the other method fails it's worth a try.
Also if you have a lot of pictures neither of these options are that great because it will take while or not fit in Google drive.
