I've got a Lenovo y50 with SeaGate Laptop Thin SSHD - 500GB (more specifically a ST500LM00-SSHD-8GB). About 2 weeks ago I restarted the computer and when I tried to turn it back on I kept getting an EFI error. So, I tried everything within my power to get rid of the boot error. Needless to say, nothing worked.
So I gave up on that approach and decided to do a reinstall of Windows. I wanted to recover my data first so I decided to buy a SATA to USB cable so I could try and access my files from another computer. However, when I plugged my SSHD into another computer I could view it in disk management but the drive would not initialize and it said it had 500GB of unallocated space. I tried a bunch of different softwares and couldn't get any files off of it, nor repair my partitions. I used EaseUS Partition Master and it told me I had several bad sectors.
So I gave up on file recovery because I was sick of not having a laptop at all and decided to go for the Windows reinstall. But when I went to do the reinstall my laptop said it could not find a drive to install windows.
In my BIOS my computer still detects my SSHD... so it knows it's there.
I was messing around with some other troubleshooting options in the installer and one option (I can't remember specifically which one it was) gave me an error saying something along the lines of "can't access this information because the drive is locked". Not the exact words, but it was something like that.
I think I already know the answer to this - time to buy a new SSHD. But if I don't have to, I'd love not to.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
