[citation][nom]runswindows95[/nom]Personally, I would love to go to 7, but my 4 year old hardware is too old to run 7 properly. So, I'm trying to save up to get new hardware, and right now, XP is working fine for me.[/citation]
Four year old hardware will run 7 just fine. I have an e6400 with 2 gigs of memory, built in August of 06. My laptop has 2 gigs and a C2D based Pentium CPU, and does fine with 7.

[citation][nom]SteelCity1981[/nom]It just goes to show you how far behind the Times MS is when they are introducing stuff into their OS they should have put in back 10 years ago. What's next Windows 9 to come out with a half decent CD\DVD\BD Burner software. lol[/citation]
Probably because putting this stuff on the OS costs money, whereas there are lots of companies that make lots of money selling their own 3rd party software, like Nero. It wouldn't surprise me if Nero were giving MS a large kickback with one hand and a threat of reporting to the competition commission with the other.

[citation][nom]hyssar[/nom]Welcome to 2002, Microsoft.[/citation]

What silly comment. MS doesn't add certain functionality to allow third parties to release and sell software... . I'm glad they've added this option but someone, somewhere, may now go out of business

It's off-topic but yeah, I couldn't imagine ever going back to XP. Take just one aspect of 7 like new hardware detection and installation, and "Devices and Printers" section makes it worthwhile.

Some guy told me with Win7, he was able to take a raid 0 install to a single SSD, and swapped out a nvida chipset board for an intel one, with a whole bunch of new hardware also, and didn't even encounter a single hiccup. There was some software / driver cleanup but that's to be expected. I imagine that could have been more problematic with XP. idk for sure cuz I wouldn't even try it. Sounds like that'd be a whole new install of XP to me.

[citation][nom]COLGeek[/nom]Finally catching up to Linux....good job (not) M$! Get with the program![/citation]

Another stupid comment. MS has to be careful in case the EU slaps another fine on their backsides and besides MS wuld prefer other third parties to release software and get PAID.

[citation][nom]amk-aka-phantom[/nom]While it's kind of funny to see MS "catching up slow" to what's been around for many years, let me remind you that it is NOT Microsoft's task to supply you with software for all kinds of tasks you may or may not wish to perform on your machine. They already do quite a bit by supplying you with the OS itself as well as Office, Security Essentials and whatnot. And when MS tries to provide you with something, y'all get upset that MS is "forcing" their "bloatware" on you and flame them. There's no satisfying you, huh?But yeah, I agree... could've put that in Win Vista or 7 already. Still, I don't mind getting third-party software for rather non-standard tasks. You have to agree, working with disk images isn't something that an average user does. But then again, average user is stupid and shouldn't set the standard for development.[/citation]

This. I'm amazed at the many idiotic replies on this forum from people that need to maybe get out more (Me included).

I wonder if this means we can also ADD files to iso og vhd files? Could be an incredibly easy way to make an iso: just copy-paste your files and it's done!

Hey amk-aka-phantom! Your still winging about me are ya,maybe I should use those report buttons on you & your ojas fruity friend that you get along with.

If you'd be a little smarter, you'd realize that the report button by itself doesn't do anything except alerting the moderators. THEY decide whether or not somebody gets the banhammer. Now that you've insulted a few people in this thread for no apparent reason save pointing out your annoying space-wasting "Hi, X! So true, you're so right!" comments, I think you should get one. It's one thing posting opinions, even if they're controversial, and entirely another thing insulting people and trolling.

And I already reported that duplicate account of yours, Wish I Was Wealthy. I hope the moderators will take note.

Will MS now allow iso streaming through Media Center? This is one of the biggest weaknesses of Media Center for me. I have a 2tb external hdd filled with images of my dvd's and would love to be able to watch them through my Xbox 360.

Makes you wonder though is it going to have some sort of DRM that keeps you from mounting images of protected media in order to keep the software manufacturers happy and keep Securom from blacklisting the Windows OS !!!

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]Probably because putting this stuff on the OS costs money, whereas there are lots of companies that make lots of money selling their own 3rd party software, like Nero. It wouldn't surprise me if Nero were giving MS a large kickback with one hand and a threat of reporting to the competition commission with the other.[/citation]

Oh yes it cost them so much money to put in actual useful programs on their system yet they put crap out like windows live garbage.

[citation][nom]chumly[/nom]Will it work for my MS_OFFICE_2010_NO_CDKEY_REQUIRED.iso?[/citation]
Ironic like having to close WinRAR because you're trying to run the crack straight from the archive.

@captaincharisma

VHD are used to virtualize an enviroment, if you want to test out another OS you can simply install it to a VHD and then boot that VHD within a virtual machine

and for all those complaining about file format support, i'll point out that ISO is an international standard, MS does not have to pay squat to anyone to support and use it, it is also a highly controlled format with very strict controls to minimize abuse and problems (and i do realize .bin files are universal but the .cue file needed to translate a .bin disc image is owned by CDRwin)

but yes i agree this has been a while in coming

While they are at it can Microsoft please make it so I can see thumbnails of all my videos, view a pdf file, and unrar stuff. We've been able to Unzip stuff since I believe XP.

@rayymond

one of two things will occur, MS has to pay licensing fee for every copy of windows sold to RarLabs and Adobe, or MS gets sued the daylights out of them for using their monopoly to strong arm competition out of sales, in the worst case scenario both may actually occur together

[citation][nom]amk-aka-phantom[/nom]And I already reported that duplicate account of yours, Wish I Was Wealthy. I hope the moderators will take note.[/citation]
Are you two sleeping with each other? You are arguing like an old married couple. For a start you have a go at Wish I Was Wealthy for saying Hi to people, WTF? Since when was addressing someone and using their name anything other than being polite?

So cut down on the caffeine and if you really feel that strongly about it you can always go running off to tell mummy (I mean the moderators).

When running off to the moderators to get people "told off" fails because not everyone uses forums the same way you do, ie perfectly, you could always fall back on the old chestnut of name calling, thumbing down and generally being childish.

Better still, generate at least 4 duplicate accounts of your own so that you can give 4 thumbs down and hide this whole post.
