Recently, I have had to do a destructive restore to my computer, -all went
well except for the fact that now I am not able to see the little box that
slides up in the lower right of my screen indicating that I have new Hotmail
messages, I have updated my Windows Messenger including the add-in, however,
now I am not being notified of my new web mail messages and when I attempt
it manually from the drop down lists in the messenges main window it only
opens my Outlook Express inbox, whereas it used to bring me to my Hotmail
box? can anyone tell me how to go about restoring these features? I have
updated WM to 5.0 and I have also installed the addin, but still no such
luck in getting it to tell me when I have email messages. Thanks in advance
for your help!

Greetings Elaine,

This feature was taken out of Windows Messenger in SP2 and Windows Messenger 5 (neither have
any Add-In support). You have two options, you can either reinstall the previous version of
Windows Messenger (see below) or simply install and use MSN Messenger instead.

To downgrade back to Windows Messenger 4.7.2009:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=b475d2d1-6266-4d82-bf78-14597545a6b4
and use the Add-In here:

Jonathan why did they remove the email alert feature from the new Windows
Messenger? Thanks to looking at one of your posts I was able to redownload
4.7 and use your link for the add ons. I wish the next version would include
the email alert. Thanks for the post & help.

Hi Perry,

This functionality has actually been gone for awhile now, it just wasn't apparent the main
version of Windows Messenger (4.7.2009) until it got updated to 4.7.3000.

Hotmail is a MSN service as a such, is in MSN Messenger exclusively.
