So you are saying that your whole menu bar is gone? What is you hit the "Windows" key on the keyboard? Drag the mouse all the way to the bottom, it may pop-up then if set to "autohide".

Also make sure your resolution is set to match the monitor native resolution, maybe do an "auto adjust" on the monitor if you have such an option to sync it to the video card settings.
