WinXP Corporate Edition

I read on the internet that there is a WinXP version that doesnt have the registration process but just a simple key like WinME. So someone can make copies of this CD and give it to his friends or upload it in the net. Is this true? Can microsft find out if someone has a corporate copy through windows update or some other way? Why did they make a version that can be copied when they went to all that trouble to build a anti-piracy program to protect their new OS?

the reason for this version is that one of the major ways of setting up pcs in a corporate environment (50-5000 pcs) is to load an image of the operating system onto a server and then access this image from the new or reformatted pcs remotely. this way some poor technician doesnt have to go around for six months and load the windows xp/2000 disk into each freakin pc and click on all the setup options......most large companies wont even look at an operating system that restricts remote installation.

Actually i have downloaded it, burnt it and installed it on four of my pc's. Of course i purchased a windows xp pro so i dont think using the corp on my other machine is that bad since they already got there money from me.

When I go into a computer store I lose all means of reason for some reason.

Run:

%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

oobe/msoobe /a

They're both the same thing and will tell you if the online activation has been done. If you decided to crack the program, then it will just tell you that the program is already activated.

I used several different P2P programs to search for and download it. The one that it got it for me the fastest was <A HREF="http://www.bigredh.com" target="_new">Hotline</A>, but that is a really complicated program to use and it doesn't have a built in search engine so you have to rely on third party websites to search for servers to connect to.

The other programs I used were Kazaa and Limewire. Both of them had multiple copies of the software available, they just didn't give me as good of connection speeds.

How to tell the differences between a Professional and a Corporate edition? I have a version and don't know if it is the corporate edition or not.

I have installed it and after installation there is no mention of activation thingy which everyone is talking about.

Where does the activation occur and if you don't what happens?

I know that, but when u install the OS, does the screen says "Corporate edition". You know that kind of message.

I have installed a Win XP Professionl Edition. They ask for a CD-Key and that is all I have inputed. There is "NO" registration at all. Does this means that mine is a corporate edition?

The version number I have is 2002. what is the version u guys have?

click START then RUN, type WINVER
this will give you a popup window advising you of the version of windows you have- works on all windows (well 95 onwards anyway)

Ok. I done that and confirm that mine is Build 2600. However, I still can't tell if it is a corporate version or not?

I am assuming that it is a Corporate version since I am not instructed to do any activation yet.

Microsoft isn't fair! Why is installing Windows XP on multiple PCs priacy when I own all of the PCs? They are my PCs not someone else's! Why should I pay hundreds of dollars just to install a new version of Windows on my 3 PCs?

Microsft doesn't build PC's, they write software. Legally you must buy a copy of XP for each PC for the same reason that a large company with 1,000 PC can't just buy one copy of Windows XP and deploy it on all of them. Note that Microsofts legal division has determined that "Ghosting" workstations, even if you own a software license for that workstation, is illegal because that license is for that PC only. You need a different license agreement for "ghosting".

Microsoft's licensing model with Terminal Services on win2K is FAR more restrictive than XP installations.

One quick fix will make your 2k TS to accept connections from million PCs without any TS license server restrictions.

To make a Ghost snapshot of the PC takes about 15 full easy going minutes, another 10 minutes takes to burn that image onto CD another 5 minutes takes to write PC number onto it and store it into the CD backup storage room/shelf. Total is 30 minutes for the whole trouble. Anytime PC goes tits up, it takes about 20 minutes to get the CD out of the storage room/shelf, stick it into the CD ROM and restore the PC's image.

Not ever a problem with MS or hassle with the same Ghost image for different machines, no need to buy a separate (another one) OS license for the same and each of the PCs which comes with OS and license for it already from OEMs.

I personally think that we should have to buy one cd for every cd player we own. We should also have to buy a dvd for every tv we own. I'm also a firm believer that we should have to register how many tv's,cd players, dvd players, and computers we have to the federal gov't so that we buy the appropriate amount of their products. While we're at it I think it should be mandatory that we buy one lawnmower for every acre of land we own since i believe that the license for a lawnmower should only allow mowing one specific acre. I also believe that when we buy milk, we are buying it for only one individual. Each additional person will have to buy a new gallon of milk that is licensed to them. A family of four is required to buy 4 hairdryers since each one is licensed to only one person and from now on each painter will have to buy a individually licensed paint brush that no one else can use. I also believe that libraries should be illegal since only one person has the right to read a copyrighted piece of literature. Libraries are just havens for criminals.

Let's be realistic here. Windows has a retail version and a corporate version. They should price them differently and cut the crap on having one copy for each computer. Nobody in their right mind would do that anymore. The days of one computer per family are gone. A family with two kids most likely has 2-3 computers minimum.
