So I checked the BIOS screen and noticed that IDE was checked, not ACHI. I have 2 SATA HDD's and SATA DVD-RW. What exactly does this cause? Instability? Like what?
No. Native ide is ok; achi has the hot connection ability, able to add drives while the system is running and windows 7 trim support. The performance is about the same. I had to use it on an older board for awhile as my sandforce controller on an ocz ssd wasn't recognized by the board. This is the procedure for changing to achi after installing windows: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?73355-Change-from-IDE-to-AHCI-after-Installation.

I read the link, so this enables NCQ and if I read it correctly, my system and the HDD's respond better? The instructions sound easy. I thought if you change to ACHI that it will make the system unstable and to prevent this, have to reload the OS.
No. After changing the registry setting to "0", you reboot and go into the bios and change from "native ide" to "achi", save and exit. If you don't find the achi setting, no harm is done. Your windows installation will still run in native ide mode.
