I was working on word, saved my doc to floppy and changed
computers. The new computer would not open doc. I go back
to previous computer, same thing- I can no longer access
this much needed document. How do I recover this without
re doing everything?

Sounds like a bad diskette from your description.

Try copying another word document to another diskette. Then try to open the
file copied onto the diskette in the same PC and then your second PC. If it
opens then your original diskette was likely bad. Also, has the floppy disk
drive on the second PC (for that matter the first PC as well) ever been
cleaned? Try Radio Shack for a floppy drive cleaner.

Good practice after coping files is to try and open them from the backup
disk if possible (floppy, cd-r, etc..) to verify that the write was good. I
guess you may have found out why.

Good luck,

r.

In the future, NEVER save an Office document to a floppy
from within an Office program. Close the document to the
hard drive as usual and then copy it (using Windows Explorer
or some other file manager) to the floppy.

Another common mistake that newbies make is to open a
document on a floppy with Word and then work with it, from
the floppy. This inevitably ends in tears.
