Worst PC Build Screw Ups

30 Pages, thats pretty impressive, makes me want to "accidentaly" break a few things :twisted:

On a side note, I learned to never leave a harddrive on the floor, out of its case, and have it running at the same time.
I was using the HD as a backup for one of my comps and I hooked it up via a usb to ide connection and a seperate powerbrick. It was going to take a while to back it all up, so I decided to leave and go to the living room to watch tv. Well in the meantime, my friend walks by the computer and steps on HD. Keep in mind that it's not in a case, just has the usb/ide connection in the back and thats it. Next thing that I hear is this really loud short grinding noise and a few crack. Needless to say, the drive is past it's prime and waiting to be replaced.

Well thats my story of the week.

Hopefully at the end of this thread everyone who has read it will learn something and have a good laugh

i was replacing the front panel plate becuase it didnt fit in an HP computer, when i popped it out the dvd drive itself broke in half

Replace face panels are a bitch to get right. I usually end up just spray painting the face plate with matte black.

I have a friend (I'm guessing sexually frustrated) who paints all his buttons (on/off, reset, floppy, dvd/cdrom, fan controllers, etc) purple.Some of his things actually look nice when he doesn't go overboard but in general he buggers everything up beyond repair.

Thats why I stick to the two basic colors. Black and stainless steel.

Those really are the two most basic colors for pc's (excluding the cream/grey things that get dirty so easily). That being said, I just love my red thermaltake LANMOTO case. It's primitive, I know, but somehow I still just love it. Can't bare to part with it.

That red sounds nice. But I've never really been a fan of flashy colors or chromed out metal. The brushed, demure, laid back look of brushed metal and black is what suits me.

I use the black gigabyte GZ-X1 casing. Yeah, cheap, spartan... perfect for what's been done to it...

On the outside it is simply a black monolith, with white LED fans in the relevant spaces. 2x80 (3rd one on PSU) and 1x120 (other 2 are hidden).

ALL with white LEDs.

A black or any other spartan colored background gives you more room in my opinion to do modding.

I wish I was still in college to show my one friend this. He would've been so proud.

On a side note, I personally think chrome is the ugliest thing invented in quite some time (other things like the ford KA, nissan micra and some other ugly fiat I saw yesterday comes to mind as well). Gotta love the brushed metal look.

About the only plus point to chrome is its corrosion inhibition properties.

Haven't been there since I was a little boy. Didn't really look at cars all that much back then but now that I know bout the OD, I don't wanna go there anymore. Don't think I would have anyway, going to the UK in about 10 months.

Now that I have arc eyes to deal with, I am now making it a policy to surf the web while wearing a welding mask. I already check out the raceways wearing one...

As for CT, yeah, well, you're not missing much. Basically jo'burg with a chilled out/f*** you (pick one) attitude and a few polluted beaches.

Thanks man. I've been looking forward to this for some time now. My dad wouldn't let me go after school but now he aint got no say about it.

My friends on that side organised a killer job for me. Finally I can have a top of the line pc again (unless top of the line is 4X4 or kentsfield, but the new AMD/Intel cpu's would be out by then). No more gaming with everything at low!!! I'll play all my old games againg just to see how great they'll look. 8)
