Question X570I motherboard doesn't turn on, causes PSU to make two clicks.

So I bought a Gigabyte X570I Aorus Pro Wifi motherboard on eBay as for parts or not working. It was claimed untested but I wanted to take my shot at getting a potentially working mobo and seeing what I could do if it doesn't work straight out of the box (I am aware of the risk with buying untested). It doesn't work straight away as when I jump the fpanel to power it on, nothing happens except the PSU makes a click sounds twice.

The parts I used for the motherboard are a 5600x, 16GB corsair ram, Corsair SF750 and 3080 FE for graphics. All of these other parts are confirmed working perfectly fine. The PSU is perfectly fine because it works in my other PC just fine.

So at some point I tried to test it again and the chipset fan started spinning, I thought it was working all of a sudden but then I realised that I had the CPU Power cable unplugged. I switched off the PSU, plugged the CPU cable back in and tried to power it on again... just to get two click sounds from the PSU again.

I'm wondering what else could be done? Can anyone give me any suggestions on what I could do to fix it? Thanks a ton.

There isn't anything else to be done. You bought a faulty board hoping to not get a faulty board, but you got a faulty board anyhow. Whoever sold it to you knew that and didn't hide the fact that the board had failed. I don't know what else you think to do or what you expect but when you buy a motherboard for "parts" what you are really doing is taking that handful of cash and lighting it on fire. Same goes for graphics cards and any other PC component. They are not generally "fixable" when they fail. The number of times I've seen something bought on Ebay or elsewhere for "parts or not working" that somebody was able to get it to actually work, are exactly ONE time. In more than 35 years of working on systems and more than 9 years on this forum contributing on a daily basis.

Motherboards are generally not "fixable" when they fail. Not unless you are highly trained in electronics repair and have all of the specialty tools and equipment that is necessary to even attempt such a fix, and usually, not even then. Fixing a power board for a tv if you have to replace a failed capacitor or something is a far easier endeavor, and one that I have done many times, but a motherboard is an entirely different beast. I wouldn't even bother to attempt it. In fact, the manufacturer won't repair them either. They simply throw them in the recycle bin and send out a different board when somebody sends one in with a problem.

There is exactly zero chance of you or the average person "fixing" whatever is wrong with that board and in the future I'd advise you to refrain from throwing your money out like that. Even if it's only ten or twenty bucks, it's a waste of your money that could have been spent towards a working component.

I’ve got a dead motherboard sitting on the shelf… Want that too?
