every time i transfer files on my LAN , FROM my xp to ANY computer, causes a lag(sometines over 15 seconds) on my XP. If i transfer from win 2k or RedHat 7.3 to my XP it works fine. But when i do it from my xp , it is like it "thinks" a while and then catches up.
I am talking about files or group of files => 500 mb.Is this a common problem?
My friends computer does the same.Every time i transfer large files, XP lags for acouple of seconds(win2k does not, red hat does not, 98 does not).Any suggestions?
I run an AMD XP1800+, Asus A7V266-C, 256 ddram Micron, Quantum Fireabll 20 GB ATA100, (and i tried 3 diff NIC's) an ADDTRON router 100mbs. After the lag , the lan works fine @ 60-80 mbs.i dont get any lags when transfering TO the xp machine or to 2k or 98 or redhat machine.

If it works, don't fix it.

i cant do anything for a certain amount of time.Everything freezes, i can moove the mouse, but i cant click any buttons for example. After the freeze period, it behaves like it wants to catch:does all the clicks, open/close windows and applications that i tried to close IN the lag period. After that, everything looks fine.

I use to have that problem as well, it was related to my harddrive. After switching from my ide drive to my 10k rpm scsi drive the problem is gone.
