Asus and MSI have the nice fan technology where they idle until they are actually needed. The Asus, runs on a single 8 pin connector, which some can attribute to lower overclocking potential. The Gigabyte G1 Gaming is a great choice, but slightly noisier. It does seem to overclock very well though.

Where are the many benchmarks in which the 290 beats out the GTX 970?

What is your budget? Also, what are your system specs, including power supply brand?

Yeah, the more sites that at least question this issue on their homepage, then the more likely Nvidia will give a meaningful response.
