put the PCIe x1 card in one of the black slots (or the x1 slots), and you will have zero performance hit.

I have the same GPU, stick with a 1080p 16:9 monitor (although i have a 16:10 monitor :P).

does the USB adapter have two USB connectors on it? if so, then yes, because that USB adapter has a SATA power, and a SATA data connector, so it should work.

is the SSD required for the motherboard to function? no.

slightly longer answer: only in some applications, and even then, not much. (unless you have an APU, then it will help gaming a little bit.)

do you have a headphone amp? if not, i don't think your headphones are damaged, but the only way to know is to test them.

this might be caused by your monitor/hdmi connection not being the default sound device. to solve this, right click the "sound" icon in the notification area, then click playback devices. find the one that has the name of your monitor/gpu manufacturer (AMD/Nvidia) and set that as the default...

if you have a choice, always get a single card, as SLI is not always supported in all titles.
