I am slowly updating the pc and in view of the change of CPU I find myself currently with 8Gb DDR4 2400Mhz to pair with R7 2700 Can it work temporarily taking into account a future upgrade for the 3000mhz ram?

My brand new R5 2600x is only showing 3 cores 6 threads. and ive tried using downcore to SIX (3 + 3) but that didn't do anything... Help!
