Hi, so yesterday I noticed that my USB adapter was on the way out, so I bought a new TP-Link Archer T6E PCIE adapter and installed it into my PC, which all worked fine. This morning however I noticed that my 3rd monitor, a Philips 223V monitor was not longer working. Occasionally it would flash with an image, and sometimes it would stay on for a minute or 2, but would have random flashing white pixels.

My setup for my monitors is such that:
  • HDMI port (GPU) > HDMI port (main Acer display)
  • Displayport 1 (GPU) > Displayport/VGA adapter > VGA port (ancient Samsung monitor)
  • DisplayPort 2 (GPU) > Displayport/HDMI adapter > HDMI port (Philips monitor)

What I've tested so far:
  • Plugging the Philips monitor directly into the HDMI port of the GPU works fine (no adapter)
  • Plugging the main Acer monitor HDMI into the DisplayPort adapter into the GPU doesn't work
  • Chainging the VGA ancient monitor DisplayPort input on the GPU works fine
  • Philips screen works fine plugged directly into HDMI of different computer (no adapter used)

From this I assume that the GPU is working fine (it is fully up to date), all HDMI and VGA cables are in order, the VGA adapter works and all the screens are functional. I'm guessing that maybe the HDMI to DisplayPort adapter being used for the Philips monitor might be shot? Just not sure whether the new network adapter may be intefering with it in some capacity or not.

Any suggestions or help?

Thanks

Hi sorry it took so long to get back on this, ended up catching a flu and wasn't able to get out of the house. ANyhow, I picked up a new DisplayPort to HDMI cable (no adapter now) and works perfectly. Old HDMI cable works fine, so I guess the adapter must've died. Glad it wasn't the GPU 😅

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Make and model of your motherboard and processor used for your build? Make and model of your GPU used to tether the display panels in your setup? Include the slots that are being populated with PCIe devices on your motherboard. To rule out the adapter that you're assuming is shot, test the adapter out on a donor system. If the issue is persistent on the donor system, the adapter might be shot.

Might want to mention the models for your panels as well as provide a link to the adapters you're working with.

Hi, thanks for the quick response!

Motherboard: ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 AM4 ATX
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3060
VGA (female) to DisplayPort (male) Comsol adapter (black)
HDMI to Displayport adapter appears to be a black brandless adapter, I think I got it off amazon awhile ago
Monitor 1: Acer KA251Q
Monitor 2: Samsung SyncMaster n940
Monitor 3: Philips 223V7QHAB/75

Unfortunately I don't have any other PC that uses DisplayPort so it's hard for me to test if the adapter is shot. However different screens didn't work when paired with the adapter, despite otherwise working without it.

Hope this helps!

Which PCIe slots are you populating on your motherboard? Speaking of motherboard, what BIOS version are you working with at the time of writing? A donor system can be found at your neighbor's or your friend's house, I didn't mean it needed to be within your own household. You can alternately use another HMDI/DP adapter and see if that brings back your prior display setup.

My BIOS version as found in System Information is:
BIOS Version/Date - American Megatrends Inc. P4.20, 2/08/2021
SMBIOS Version - 3.2

Slots on my motherboard (from top to bottom, where top is nearest to CPU):
Shiny Long PCIE slot: GPU
Small PCIE slot: Nothing
Long PCIE slot: Nothing
Small PCIE slot: Network Adapter
(Forgot the technical terms for these, sorry)

I don't really know anyone that I'd be able to check the adapter on immediately, although I'm heading out in a few hours to the shops so I could pick up a new one whilst out and give it a go? Their pretty cheap here, so I'm happy to buy one.
