Lol I'm your enemy...

You'd be f'n stupid not to get Vista Premium so you can actually make use of the DX10. I read on the first page of this that you weren't interested. Just in case nobody addressed it. Dual core would suit you for now, but a midranged-high end quad might work better in the future. You'd also be f'n stupid to spend $4K on a computer when you could spend $1500 and have a sweet gaming computer. Like everyone else said, save your cash and don't be an idiot. Build 3 computers over the next three years instead of 1 for $4k. Then you'll have two computers for friends and the one for yourself will be a lot better than the one you'd build today for your money.

Just keep saying that....

Yea, right, never going to upgrade.

NeoxBlu1

1. Vista does not "suck" that badly its mainly due to people not knowing what they are doing.

2. If you think vista has problems you're going to love 64bit XP.

3. If you buy dual 8800GTX/single 8800ultra over dual 8800GT you have a screw loose.

4. There is no point in buying the new 45nm quad core it will be much cheaper to stick with an overclocked Q6600 and then upgrade to a Q6600 style 12mb quad in the future, then you can even sell the Q6600 on.

5. There is not really much need for dual raptors if you want this to last a while you are better off geting dual WD7500AAKS in RAID0, a nice 1.4terabytes in data over 280gb and still brilliant performance.

why?
I mean do you have had a bad experience upgrading?
the pc market is not like the console market where all you need is a single machine for 3-4 years, the pc market is manyly upgrading

Is it just me or is the more important nick pick that a xp machine so powerful is 12 ways useless.

a)no dx10 compatible so why so much power

You might have already considered this; purchase a blu-ray drive and an hd-dvd drive. This will be a great compliment to a powerful system. However, seems like you might already have such things in a home entertainment system. DDR-3 doesn't perform better right now than the fastest DDR-2. However-having a system that accepts DDR-3 will future proof that part of the system for a time. Have fun witht the quad core. Dual 8800's will put you at the top of the game - just be sure to play the games at resolutions that are worthy of the hardware; like driving a Lambrogini in the US - makes no sense. You need to get to Germany to really feel the power. Consider an HD tv tuner card - but like I said before, you might have already taken care of this somewhere else. Also consider the Hyperdrive for you system (check the article on toms hardware guide). I doubt that any of the current spinning technology will catch up to the performance of this solid state juggernaut (hope I spelled that right). These units seem to be extraordinary, so definitely check them out. I wish I had your budget man!

No, because I dont like to keep upgrading...

I'll find it an hassel to always change, for get that :fou:

Once again NTY to VISTA, hate it, dont want it, never... :fou:

1. Mayb to you vista dosent "suck," but everyone is different and it "sucks" for me.

2. Ya I will love 64-Bit XP Professional

3. I dont understand when you say "you have a screw loose?"

4. An overclocked QX9650 would be better than a overclocked Q6600, sure its expensiver but you get the new 45nm technology, also I am mostly/only interested in Intel C2 Extreme.

5. I think I will get a WD Raptor X 150Gb as my HDD and WD Caviar 750Gb as my storage.

I wouldnt want the trouble of upgrading every year, ok I will have some out dated components, but hey if i get Q6600 It will be even more out dated than QX9650.

No matter what Vista gives as advantages compared to XP (like DX10) I really dont care, I will not get Vista.

The only reason I'll get vista is if one of my favorite games require it, which will probably happen some day, but for now I'll always stick with Xp Pro until Iam forced to change to Vista, Currently I am not forced to change, so ya...

I just upgraded to windows XP Pro 64-bit, and it is great. I had no problems whatsoever. So to those of you *cough* Htaman *cough* that said XP Pro 64-bit has problems, you are very mistaken. Ever since Vista 64-bit came out, drivers are being released more and more for 64-bit OS. I have an Airlink wireless card; ever try to find 64-bit drivers for that? They don't exist. But I got the atheros chipset drivers (wireless chipset) and they work flawlessly. It took me 30 minutes to get all my drivers, and that was only because I had some minor difficulties in finding the WI-FI drivers. But XP Pro 64-bit is great, so I think that you chose a good OS. Besides, from what I can see, all DX10 does for you is lower performance w/o increasing much visuals; so waste of time IMO. But I have never used it, so I could be quite wrong.

Nicely done.

That RAM also costs more at half the capacity... Dominator stuff has always been a rip IMO
Who is going to noice the difference of 4-4-4-15 compared to 4-4-4-12 unless you are memory benching?

Thanks djlazlow... im glad SOMEONE pointed out that the rig i built for this git is nice

You will not notice any difference at all between those two timings whilst gaming.

3 monitors sucks for gaming, unless you like having thick black stripes down the middle of your picture where the monitor edges are.
Just go with a single widescreen monitor.

True, but for CAD, Photoshop, etc. this really helps.

Do you really know what you are saying when it comes to timings?

Hassle to upgrade? Is your time REALLY that important?

Buy a console that has some of the game you want.

I'm done with this thread, I have no more advice to give to you. Good luck.

PS. QUIT DOUBLE POSTING (AND TRIPLE et al).

Final Thoughts:

[Time machine back to Nov 2004 - three years ago]
Top-of-the-line everything machine:
Athlon 64 FX-55 (Clawhammer 2.6Ghz)
ATi X800 or X850 (Dec 2004) or nVidia 6800 Ultra DDR3
Fill in other awesomely outdated parts.

[Back to present time]
Can this machine run the newest game at any resolutions above 800x600 or any eye candy on: NO.

If you don't understand what this means, I can no longer help you.

It dosent sound like you want performance just "names" id buy less of a cpu spend more on water cooling and jsut oc the stuff! like you idea on vieo card 1k on ram! major waste!!1
