After a long time of searching, I have compiled a list of the parts I have found that may assure a good PC, but no guarantee 🙁 .

I have looked for the best system that will protect my processor while still performing well under gaming conditions. Any suggestions?

This is going to be my first home built PC, and I intend for it to be good in general, Gaming, Media, Video, and Etc.

OK...I have several suggestions. At the moment, unless you are die hard AMD fan, I would drop the AMD proc. Go with the e6420 from Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115016). It is an excellent value for that performance. If you want to reduce price, you can step down to the 6320 but, the price difference isn't much so I suggest the e6420. This requires a motherboard change - go with this EVGA mobo from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188017. It offers support for up to 8GB of DDR2 memory, and support for next-gen 1333FSB processors.

As for the case, I have that exact case and it is spectacular. Makes for a wonderful setup and it keeps the components quite cool, highly suggested.

Sound card. I think that you should go with one of two things for this budget - either use integrated sound from the motherboard, or buy an X-Fi XtremeMusic. This means that you either spend nothing on a sound card, or if you do, you get your money's worth. Graphics card. For this budget, I suggest the EVGA 7600GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130062). It is $75 after rebates. I had a 7600GT before I upgraded to 8800, and they are wonderful cards for the price. In fact, they were often selected as the best card for your money. Excellent performance for $75.

That memory is an excellent chocie. Corsair is always great, and it seems that is at a great price.

Monitor - I suggest this 19" from Viewsonic. Viewsonic makes excellent products. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116065

This is a good optical drive - Pioneer makes good optical drives (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827129007). Get two if you can afford it.

About the heatsink, unless you plan to OC a lot, the stock heatsink from Intel is great. I OCed to 2.93 with the stock cooling, and probably could have gone farther if I had wanted to. Don't bother upgrading the stock heatsink - those Core 2's run so cool already there is no point.

OK, speakers, I am not sure what to suggest. I tend to consider myself a bit of an audiophile, so I would never think of getting 26W speakers. The best 2.1 speakers that I know of, and they are damn well worth the price I can tell you that, are the Logitech Z-2300 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121122). But, that may be too pricey for you, but I highly, highly recommend them. I used to have them before I upgraded to 5.1, and they are simply superb. If you have to decide b/w nice speakers or nice sound card, drop the sound card, use integrated, and buy these speakers.

Power - Corsair is a good choice, amongst others. 450W+ will work fine for you. Get 500+ if you want to have room for future upgrades.

Not sure what that totals to, but you may be able to get better prices at other places and drop some of these. If you can spring for all these components though, you won't be disappointed.

Sorry, but I think this one has a number of problems.

Your case choice itself is fine; front and rear fans, and tool-free. This is a short step up from their slightly cheaper Elite 330 case, which has worked well for me on multiple builds. For the PSU, Rosewill apparently has both good and very bad units. I'm not sure which one this is, and not sure I'd take the chance. The Apevia (Aspire) unit is also not suspected of being of any quality, EXCEPT, that from personal experience with two of them, I had no problems. Still, I won't go this cheap ever again. In either case, it may be a crap shoot. FSP is a reputable manufacturer of PSUs with a couple of models in the low price range ($45-$58). I've used three of them recently, and all have been solid.

Gigabyte, Asus, or Biostar are likely to be of higher quality. One of my coworkers ran a computer shop, and had lots of bad experience with ECS. I personally prefer Gigabyte or Biostar. My AMD systems were Abit, but they've been a little odd.

=============
$80 will not buy "Good at gaming," at least not on current titles. $100 will get you a 7600GT which will be ok (but not on max settings), and $150 will get you a x1950Pro which is a good choice. Check out the VGA charts, and read Cleeve's sticky thread and/or Tom's article on the Best Gaming Video Cards for the Money.

I'm deaf in one ear, so I'm not one to ask about speakers. I suspect if you want really nice sound, you'll need to spend a lot more. I think I spent $60 on mine, and I know there's much better out there.

Or Head Set?
As for sound, I'm lost...
($30 Suggested)
===========
I use a mono headset when my wife is watching TV in the same room. Assuming both of your ears are connected and working, this is not a good choice.

I don't think that sound card will have any real difference over onboard.. if you're gonna get one go for an x-fi or something. I'd spend it on a cpu fan if i was you.

As an alternative to that processor you could also check out the e6650, e6600, e6750, depending on what you want.. some of them are faster.

For the same price as that memory you can get crucial ballistix, which is very good.

For speakers I've had great experiences with logitech 2.1 kits.

Any recommendations for a cool Heat Sink for medium OCing?

I changed the processer for the newer 1333MHz Generation processer.

I changed the memory.

I can't find any relyable speakers.

The processor price dropped.

I am doing a similar build... but I am going to hold out untill the q6600 G0 price drops below 300, and I am positive I am getting a g0 stepping chip. Everything I list is from newegg:

You really should get a P35 board with the new 1333fsb intel chips, and its better. I would only get a p35.
- GIGABYTE GA-P35-S3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard... $89

I opted to get an overclocked 8500 with ddr3. DX10 is nice, this should last untill the new cards come out later this year / you feel the need to upgrade. Really, the specs dont look too bad for the price: best dx10 i could find.
- MSI NX8500GT-TD256E OC GeForce 8500GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3... $86

If you have enough $ I would get two cheap 160 GB hard drives and Raid 0 them. Good performance, cheap, enough space for now.
- Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s... $48 x 2

Tom's hardware used this case in one of their oc budget builds. Seems decent, has lots of fans, and 500w power supply. May want to upgrade the power supply in the future.
- RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply

Goodluck with the build, if i could tell you one thing... it would be to get a P35 board. Dont waste your time with anything else.

Enter the Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT, a card that delivers top-notch gaming performance and all the visual glitz for less than $200. While it's nowhere near as fast as the top-of-the-line GeForce 7900 GTX card, the 7600 GT offers strong performance for the casual gamer. In other words, unless you absolutely must run the hottest, newest games at high resolution, Nvidia's latest budget 3D card more than suffices. And if you do hit a performance bottleneck, you can always drop a second 7600 GT into an SLI-compatible motherboard.

(Bored, made a haiku....Wait was it 7 or 8 on the Second Line?!?!)
Distraught I am now.
I stepped out of the failure.
Away from Power.

I really have tried, but most of the reliable Power Supplies are out of my budget.

I need suggestions for a $30-$60 500W PS

The CPU Hot.
The Heat Sink In faithless construct.
Now it is Fried.

I have a small part of the budget for the heat sink, but I'm sceptical as to the fact that they are reliable.

I need a suggestion for a Heat Sink at $20-35

Case: $50 + $16 Your case is fine but I like the COOLER MASTER Centurion 534 better. Its personal reference but you can check it out. Also it's a good idea to look for cases in local stores since shipping for cases on newegg is $16!

Power: $58 What that guy stated above. The FSP Group 450W should be good enough.

Motherboard: $130 I'll get the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R. Great overclocker if you decide to overclock.
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813128050

[b ]Hard Drive[/b]: $70 Your Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB is a good choice.

Memory: $110/$80 Well for memory I don't like to mess with rebates. They take forever to come and a lot of times don't come so I don't take rebate prices into consideration. If you do then the Corsair/ Crucial Ballastic / Patriot or others 2GB DDR2 800 should be fine. If not, I would consider mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 if your overclocking.
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820146673
I f you want to go for cheaper and not overclocking just go with DDR2 667.

DVD R/W: Any $30-$35 models are good. For example this:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827131047
or Lite-On or LG. Your personal prefence. Look for ones with Lightscribe if you one also but it cost extra ><.

GPU: $130/$80 Your 7600GT its good. But like I said, I don't like rebates. If you looking for better graphic cards the 1950pro its a good choice.
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814102061
If you can spend higher get the X1900XT ><.

Sound Card: $0 Onboard its good enough. If you really want a sound card get what the previous poster posted. I suggest not to get one though, waste of extra money.

Keyboard/Mouse: Shouldn't you have a old keyboard and mouse. But if you really want a new one just look around I guess.

Monitor: $130 I would buy this one but it's sold out =\, but as the keyboard/mouse case, the old one would be great unless its a CRT.
here
You can also price match with Staples.

Processor: $95/$120/$186 If you want something fun and cheap to overclock the E2160! The e4300 its good and fun also but you pay extra for the extra cache. If you want something more expensive get the E6420. If your not planning to overclock get the E6850 or something less expensive E6750.

Cooler: $21 If your overclocking moderatly get the Artic Cooling Freeze 7 Pro.
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=FAN-AC7PRO
If not overclocking or slightly, stock cooler is awesome.

Speakers: $53 These are great speakers.
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-X-530-5-1-Speaker-System/dp/B0002WPSCG
If you want the newer version the 540 is out, but sold out at BestBuy.

If you add the total depending what you want, it should add up around $850 but ofcourse dont forget tax and shipping. The monitor really takes a bite out of the 850 which brings the system to only $700, but I guess if you cut some corners here and there you'll eventually end up with a good bang with the buck computer. Good Luck.

Your build made me re-think the graphics choice.

As a couple of recent articles have shown, the 8500GT is dried poo when it comes to games.
The 7600GT is a solid card. It sips power, too, so it doesn't add too much heat to your case. By the time you actually need DX10, A) better cards will be out (and probably cheaper), and B) you could have been saving up some money (a dollar a day?) and be ready to get it.

Just as alternative I checked out zimzoomfly.

Total $552 (after $75 in mail-in rebates)

$150 for mouse/speakers/OS and the total is $700

The 8600GT isn't quite as bad, but if you can stretch it a little, a card in the x1950 series would be good. I'd choose the Pro because I've heard that the XT is a hot howler, but that's just me. I'm not in as much need of performance for the games I play.
I do not like CoolerMaster PSUs. They use cheap sleeve fans which croak. There's better out there, so imo CoolerMaster is an answer in search of a question.

I for one would suggest that you do go for the AMD. Get the X2 4000 with the Brisbane core. It's like $70. That and a decent MB can be had for about $150 from newegg and is overclockable. Dump the soundcard, not worth it on your budget. Look at a smaller cheaper PSU. (Trust me 400W is enough)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104953
http:/ /www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153023
That frees up almost enough room in your budget for the 8800gts 320MB. If your into gaming, the big videocard will make a bigger difference then the faster processor.

RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP $70
GIGABYTE GA-P35-S3L $90
E6550 $177 (mwave.com)
Freezer 7 Pro (ewiz.com) $21
2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 $80
320GB Seagate $80
EVGA 7900GS KO $105
20" Acer AL2051W $199
KB&MOUSE $38

$850 even

Nice case with inbuilt 500W PSU is more than you need, fastest P35 chipset, E6550 + Freezer 7 Pro should get you 2.8-3.0Ghz easy with overlock, fast quality ram, 320GB hdd, 7900GS is almost twice as fast as 7600GT and costs only $25 more, you figure. And the best part is the Acer AL2051W, it has a very rare 8-bit panel which is used is 24" monitors that cost over $600, it has 176! degree viewing angles, 800:1 contrast. This monitor cannot even be compared to the rest of TN panel junk that's being sold for $160-200. It would be wrong NOT to buy this monitor for $199.

Good luck.

The 7950 was never really that good. In the end it will cost about a 1000$ to get an all new gaming computer these days. The difference between the 850 price tag and the 1000, is the video card. The two biggest things u can never skimp on is the psu and the graphics card...everything else u can get crap(as long as the cpu is 2.5ghz or above) and only lose a marginal amount of fps. Anyway have fun :).

Well I added this all up and this computer costs about 1400$ which is 400$ over what I estimated. This is just about the best/cheapest gaming computer that you can buy currently. I know this is way over ur price ceiling...i just wanted to let you in on what the best/cheapest gaming computer would look like and how much it would cost. By the way...my computer was worth about 2000$, in its day...and this computer would kick my computer's ass. Have fun :).
