Question about xmp

can anyone really explain how the XMP option in the BIOS is related to memory overclocking?
my motherboard (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B550-GAMING-GEN3 ) is said to support until 4400 mhz ocs but my sticks are 3200mhz will i be able to reach at least 4000mhz? they are hyperx fury standard sticks. the processor is a ryzen 5 5500. if I can't then whats holding me back? the processor or the sticks?

XMP is factory overclock, its an easy way to overclock your ram (for beginners)

that depends on many factors, but some user experience is required with ram overclocking
