Hello,
I recently purchased an acer aspire model 5742-7047. I am experiencing difficulties with the touchpad mouse. Sometimes it works well, then two minutes later it seems to "freeze" for several seconds. It is almost as if the system bus is busy....
Does anyone else have this problem and is there an easy work around - or should I return the laptop...

Solution
I would recommend returning the laptop as it is probably has faulty touch sensors but I cant be sure as I don't own the specified laptop. It may be wise to clean the touchpad with a damp cloth just to see if it has any grease on it.But the best thing to do is just to return the laptop or contact Acer;

Well it appears I will be dealing directly with Acer. I went to the place where I purchased it (Best Buy) but as it was over 14 days (31 in fact) they wouldn't return it. They offered to look at it for a price which I declined. So now to Acer. Thank you for your suggestion.

Hi there, I am having the same problem. I have the same laptop and I just got it about a month ago, also from best buy for $499 plus warranty and tax etc... it was affordable but guess u really do get whatu pay for. I had an HP before this and have had nothing but problems with this laptop since I got it. I'm not impressed by Acer at all. I've seen the blue screen of death 3 x randomly since I got it, and already had to take it in to be looked at by the BB Geek Squad once... they were not very helpful either. Thankfully it didn't do much to the computer though I just don't have faith that this laptop is going to go the distance. I am a heavy user in that my laptop runs almost constantly between work and play and I need something reliable - this doesn't seem to be it.

I disenabled my touchpad a few wks ago since there is no button on the laptop to turn it off/on conveniently and I use a wireless mouse - the touchpad is right in the way of my typing hands so kept having my cursor fly off the screen accidentally - disenabling the touchpad was the only solution. Now as of yesterday the mouse has begun to freeze as Kate described above. It is aggravating and I don't know how to fix it if I even can at all. I also can't seem to find the touch pad settings to re-enable it so I can see if it too is having the same problem as the wireless mouse and if not, use it as a backup for when/if the mouse stops working entirely. I thought maybe it was the mouse that needed replacing but now I'm wondering if it's just an Acer thing. I guess only one way to find out. Will have to try another mouse.

Good luck everyone. Buy Dell or Toshiba next time - my 2 cents. Or at least an HP. I didn't LOVE my HP but it was better than this.
