Ok, I've been playing the single player campaign on MechAssault (XBOX game) for a couple of weeks now (I still have 3 missions left though). Only recent have have tried out playing it online. I very much enjoy playing team deathmatch. However, I feel like I'm cheating at times. I've adapted a strategy where I let the enemy team and my team get into the heat of battle while I pilot a heavy long-range Mech and shoot out the enemies one by one from a distance. Do you think that's cheating? I'm effectively camping in one place for a long period of time. I usually hide behind a building after firing so the enemy doesn't see me right away.

So is this considered "cheating" or is sniping in MechAssault ok?

Intelligence is not merely the wealth of knowledge but the sum of perception, wisdom, and knowledge.

A lot of online gamers hate campers, but in my book, they aren't cheating. I mean even camping has disadvantages because you are isolated and easy pickins if seen.

I've been using the LRM missle camping strategy for a year now in MechWarrior 4, but it only works 1/2 the time, I think the people you're playing against are pretty stupid if they can't track down a camper.

Most people live at the speed of life, I drink Mountain Dew!

They arent that bad, see the trick is when you kill them you rub it in real good make em know you enjoyed it. Usually they seek revenge like a foo and die again.

its even nicer to have admin and slap the hell out of them till they only have 5% health, and in the booming god like server message tell them to get moving

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

not cheating but not much fun... lots more fun goin' up close, stompy stompy with a 100 tonner & lots of guns !!!

is it summer already ??? oh, its just the heat haze coming off my PC...

It matters...If someone's playing as a Rag or Ymir then I'll snipe on them like crazy cause I think those two mechs are BS.

However most of the time I like getting into it with my Thor...and I go after campers religiously.

Your using WHAT??? (quote from friend when I told him my PC specs)

That is good combat strategy. Nothing wrong with effectively using your mech to it's full capabilities. If it is team based and not a deathmatch then it's up to the other team to send out a mech to take car of you. Long Ranged mechs go down quick and easy. Keep it up until people catch on. Your helping your teamates by using your mech effectively.

in games where you've got an objective, camping is kinda lame. but what you are doing is called strategy. the only people who hate strategy like that are those you frag. they are sore and poor losers. BTW guys, there is a difference between camping and sniping. Class-based mods where you have a sniper and people whine "camper" just maker me laugh at the whiners. FIND A STRATEGY TO DEFEAT THEM YOU WHINY BABIES! 😛

Don't know if any of you guys ever played the original online BattleTech that was available thru AOL and stuff. But I was a Hpt.Comm in the House of Marek LOL, anyway, the way you are playing was one of the legitimate strats we used in combat. In 5 on 5 combat, we usually had a light mech (Assassin), 2 assault mechs (Atlas), and 2 long range mechs (Catapaults). The assassin would rush in to stir things up, while the assaults would wade in and start pounding away. All of this while the 2 cats would stand in the back and pound away with LRM20s.

Best game ever :)

Multiplayer Battletech. I loved that game! It was the first and only and last time I ever ran a guild in any game. But it was fun as hell. To this day I still dont like to play the newer mechwarrior series games just because I liked the one on AOL so much more.
