So, I have only been following the AMD/ATI R9 300 series stuff loosely so far. My tower is still using the Raedon HD 4800 series cards (old) but my laptop has a 7970 in it and I want to upgrade the GPU in the laptop.

I am getting kind miffed at AMD right now because the bits and pieces I am hearing about the R9 300 series is another re-brand and there really isn't anything "new" or innovative happening in the last 2-3 generations of cards from AMD.

This is really sad.

I agree with you there. I just upgraded to the Samsung 3440 monitor that I have been keeping an eye on. found it for a rediculous deal @ Fry's and couldn't pass/wait any longer. My current card is a 6990, and it's been struggling in a few games. Ready for 390X or 395x2 to release already.

Yeah it's been known for a few weeks now that everything short of the 390x was going to be non-hbm. Honestly, it doesn't bother me. If you want the latest and greatest, pay for it. If not, then wait till 2016. I think it's smart for AMD. Why put next gen tech on a $180 R9 350? "Want HBM? Buy our flagship card."

i did. posted [strike]hoping[/strike] thinking if it'd carry over to the new cards. :) amd might do something like this after nvidia releases it's fiji competitor(s). nvidia is already bundling batman arkham knight afaik.

Batman and Witcher 3. I likely won't be going back to Nvidia any time soon, if ever. Their business model is so shady now, and all their top tier prices are WAY over priced. I'll stick with AMD, until I feel that Nvidia has earned my business again.

The 7950 is a 270x rebrand, and most likely the r9 360x will be a 270x and a 370x will be a 280x, 380x will be 290 probably and the 390/x is new. So anything above a 270x really...

your sequence is backwards and partly incorrect. radeon r9 280 (non-x) is the closest to being radeon hd 7950 rebrand. radeon hd 7870 (slightly overclocked) was rebranded to r9 270x.

I am in the market to buy GPU. My target is to use it to play 4K games on my 4k projector. Since my projector can go up to 60 hz, I only need 60 fps. It it worth waiting for 390x in my case?

I'm going to second that. I bought a 970 and couldn't get my money back as I now have a half defective unit (screen turns on and off couple times a day). Gigabyte refuses to repair because "they can't find the issue" (I've tried the card in another machine with a 970, new cables, ect.) and Nvidia support just tells me I'm screwed. Let that be a hint to you guys, if your OEM doesn't do it for you Nvidia sure as hell won't.

FYI, if the Nvidia installer crashes, it doesn't tell you why or log the issue. Nvidia expects everyone who buys their products to have a perfect experience.

There's a good chance of that. The Titan X isn't as efficient as the 970 and 980. You get less frames per watt of power used.

True, but it has become a lot more efficient compared to the other titans.
