Hey im looking towards the future and I'm eyeing the AMD 8 core bulldozer CPU'S coming down the line. I'v seen some source say there going to use a AM3+ Socket and im wondering if that means youll be able to toss one in a current AM3+ compatible board?
Will my current http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130297&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Motherboards+-+AMD-_-MSI-_-13130297 msi 870A Fuzion work i noticed just now that its a AM3 not a AM3+ I'm guessing that means ill need a new mother board cause the sockets are comparable?

That "market" is no different from any other market. Not all software makes the best use of 24 cores - some of the tests in that link didn't even make use of 12 cores. How is a lower clocked 24 core server supposed to perform against a higher clocked 12 core server when the workloads are only optimised for 12 cores?

The result of this scaling is that for once, you can notice which CPUs have real cores vs. ones that have virtual (Hyper...

So no details on Bulldozer, for now, right?

well theres one thing for sure - how amd fanbois hype up AMD chips...

and lets see where thats got them in the past...

face palmed egg on their face...

anyway going off topic just a slight bit... got to admire Steve Jobs for promoting the Ipad 2 even tho his pancreatic cancer has been rather troublesome...

^ I'm optimistic, the archetecture looks interesting, and I'm hoping BD will do well to keep prices competitive. my wife is definatly itching for a new pc (she has an am2 socket single core ) and when bd specs are out she'll either be getting a 2500k or the bd equivilant price point $2-$250 based on how it preforms

now will amd fanboys be disapointed if amd doesn't have the halo product... sure... should they care... not one iota

what matters imo is ratio of price : performance

we're getting close so we'll see how that looks in a few months

*add* in my case it also depends on the mobos and if there is a am3+ mobo that supports sli ad my wife already has 2x evga gts 450's (i know it's a waste in her current system but we paid $65 each for 2... it was a really good deal)

^ and screw them up like how they did with the phenom 1s ?

It's called sarcasm you two.

Except AMD needs to make money. Inel could take all the time they want, they have tons of money. AMD doesn't. New product would mean new sales and that would mean new income.

I pretty much predicted it would be a rehash of the arch and possibly a bit more info but nothing exciting.

AMD didn't release much about Phenom II before launch, why do it with BD?

You should be used to hype. It happens on both sides. Well not as much for Intel or GPUs but it happens.

I am still only optimistic about one thing: It will be a new CPU. Thats it. Until release. No reason to hype or speculate anything beyond what we know.

Short Answer, they will perform outstandingly..............*at least on AMD's lineup*

AMD's planned naming scheme will go, nore more Phenom , no more Athlon II no more Sempron

E- Bobcat
A- Llano
FX- BD

it does not have to outperform Intel's SB to justify the naming, it only needs to beat the other AMD offerings
You made my day!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I find it strange too. They planned the Phenom FX but cut it shortly before Phenoms release much like the Quad FX was also cut before Phenoms release. They couldn't release a FX based CPU because the FX was known to overclock very well and Phenom I did not. And the Quad FX would have been a horrible idea since Phenom I was not as power efficient as Phenom II and would have just been a power slurping monster, much like the original Quad FX AMD used to try and compete against Intels quad core.

So on that info I can guess that BD will not be as bad as Phenom I in terms of power and OCing. But it doesn't mean the performance will be there. AMD released plenty of FX CPUs after Core 2 came out.

Yes and no. The FX lineup will want to beat SB if AMD wants to make a nice profit off of them and in reality, it would be kind of sad if a mid range 2600K beat a FX line CPU.

Supposed to support up to 192GB of RAM. Per mobo.

Kinda crazy times. I remember when 1GB was top end, 2GB was overkill and 4GB was god-like. I of course had 2GB at the time.

Admit it. If BD was pushing those specs, you would drool. But since its Intel you snooze at it.

I am interested in both BD and LGA 2011. But most of all I want to see what Ivy bridge has to offer and Intel will be showing it off this May.

Lol...

If intel comes up with better pricing and high specs then i wont mind switching to intel :sol:

I always go with price=performance ratio.
Being fan is secondary option(how mean i am lol :kaola: )

SB came out at a great price point. The 2500K is near $200 and overclocks like no other. Also in terms of performance, it beats out the high end Core i7 quad cores.

Either way, don't forget that if BD is a smash hit, it wont be cheap like current AMD CPUs are. Look at the HD5K series of GPUs. It was the first GPU for a while and until nVidia came out with their DX11 GPU, it was $400+ for a HD5870. If the GTX480 didn't beat the HD5870 it would have stayed in the $400+ range until after the HD6K came out.

did you mean...i5 2500k?? for just $200 are you sure? 😱
