If anyone has every opened a CE product or computer that is inside a smokers home... YOU know its very very nasty.
Everything you touch is yellow and kind of sticky. It gunks up the fans and cooling fins. It can damage the computer. Whereas normal dust - can be blown away... this stuff requires either (A) leave it or (B) scrub parts clean. So when adding memory to the computer, the connector itself is contaminated. Also the smell is horrible. Of course the more a person smokes - the worse it is. A 4-pak a day smoker can yellow-gunk a desktop in 1~3 months. And with notbooks/AIOs where space is limited that could be even worse. Computers die, and the warranty doesn't cover user damage. A smoker should get a fanless computer - which is why TVs, clocks, VCRs don't die.
I hate working on smokers computers... it sucks... and yeah, when you have to BLOW out or rub-out smoke covered dust - THAT SHIT IS TOXIC!

Hence, the reason why smokers HAVE to smoke outside their own homes if their love-ones or room-mates don't smoke. Or a girl "friend" I see from time to time, spend 2-3 hours in her home where she may light up about 3 times and still my clothes stink.

I constantly smoke *well not a bad chain smoker.* I've never had problems with my computer from tar. That's just absolute fucking nonsense. Ya, you may smell it, I won't deny that, but to say it's so much harder, or a biohazard is freaking retarded. And unless it states clearly in the disclaimer I would sue their asses. I am a smoker and I build and service my own computers and computers of others (friends) Compaired to smoke pet hair is much much worse than smoke on computers. Aside from floppie drives I can attest to never having a failure of any kind from smoke residue. I have built and worked on computers since 1985, my first being an Altair 5000 and a Datapoint 5500, both backplane designs. Those disk were indeed sensitive to outside contaminants suck as dust and smoke. I do NOT smoke in my house out of curtasy for the wife and kids....My computer resides in my Garage (mancave) where I smoke and cus and whatever else I choose to do. The Garage is uninsulated and not finished, it is dusty and hot in the summer (Texas Panhandle) and cold as hell in the winter. I keep my system clean by blowing it out weekly with my air compressor. I have a refridgerated AC I have ducted to the case for the summer. it might be 98 where I sit, but it is 65 in the case. In the winter it might be 12 in the garage, but I have two electric heaters trained on ME, the computer gets the cold air.

My roommate is a DJ and is in bars all the time with smokers all over the place, well he has nothing to worry about cause its a pc, but if its a mac and something happens and has to take it in, they won't fix it? That's bullshit. Now his business would lose money cause your snobby, smoker hating, ass won't work on it.
As for the smell arguments, Yeah its stink (wear a mask), I can't stand the smell of cucumber melon candles but if burn one next to your computer all the time, I will fix it cause I am not a arrogant asshole.

Apple customer service sucks as much as this bullcrap their throwing here. This just in... from X firearms manufacturer Sorry armed forces we cannot fix your weapons because the guns parts and barrels have lead and gun powder residue in them and is dangerous to our health. Hey the military guy says i know just ask the people who got what came out the end of said gun!

Alright, I've worked on a pair of computers in a much worse environment than smokers. They were in a power lawn care equipment sales and repair store (lawn mowers, trimmers, etc). They still operated fine aside from having some malware, but I saw catastrophic failure in the near future for these things if they weren't cleaned out physically soon. I took these computers in the back, grabbed the air compressor hose, hooked up an air jet nozzle, and went to town on these things. They were absolutely filthy. I guarantee they had more crap in them than these smokers' computers. There was probably gasoline and oil residue in them, probably exhaust residue, they were gross. But after an extreme session of air blasting (canned air wouldn't have come close to cleaning these out) and a good wipe down, they were good as new.
If I can do that to nasty old computers sitting in a shop, then you guys can fix computers owned by smokers. There's no excuse for that poor level of service.

Have any of you ever had to work on a smoker's computer? Its absolutely, totally disgusting to anyone who doesn't smoke and they are IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN! I've seriously considered not working on them in my business, either that or I need to find a way to completely enclose them. Within minutes the entire room will reek of smoke and you can't tell me there isn't a whole lot of nastiness there.
I've chosen not to smoke, so why should I have to endure someone else's bad habbit?

How Many Smokers are there in the USA and Canada, cause i know they don't have this rule in Saudi Arabia and other GCC country's cause if they did they wouldn't sell anything cause over 60% of population are smokers. I go to saudi arabia for work and they smoke everywhere in the mall in resturants in there office at work everywhere. in canada i know about 25% or more smoke and i am asumeing around the same number in the USA. so what thats now now about 125 million in the states and about another 2 million in canada thats alot of people not buy macs. i think that is a little bit of bad PR they should make this go global and see how people respond to there idiotness/Cheapness. They know there loseing money now since windows 7 is out so why not cut some costs. that is another 25% of there computers not getting repairs and then that number does go agaist there quality issues they are haveing since they are now number 4 not number 1 (Asus, Toshiba, Sony then MAC, Malfuction rates best is asuas worst is mac).
The next mac pro will have warranty filters on all the open air vents to prevent this kind of contamination. The two dollar addition will increase the cost of the whole computer 500%. Its all about marketing.
