Anyway, I was going to get this game while I was over here at Afghanistan, but since we don't have good internet connectivity over here. That plan just became moot...Great job Ubisoft, you guys officially suck now.

What about people like me?
I bought Mass Effect (the original) for the 360 (because it was too buggy for PC), but eventually got it for my PC (through a torrent, of course), but view themselves as legit players still because they still payed for the damned thing? I also have a half dozen games I lost CD-keys for (I bought Diablo 2 three times because I kept losing my key). Cracks do have their legitimate place. If I were to buy AC2 for PC, I'd still crack it. However, I won't, because the game isn't good enough to deal with the companies BS.
Ban me if they will, but I bet the BoM staff agrees with many of the views expressed in the posts.

We only have your word for that you bought the game, and I'm just enforcing this rule from the ToS.

Why is it so difficult to get your head around the idea that suggesting people indulge in illegal activity is OK? either way the forum rules forbid the promotion of piracy so it's not up for debate as far as I'm concerned.

I already OWN the PS3 version. I bought it, full price for the PS3. Animus 2.0 is "pretty". That said, I have NO INTENTION of buying it *AGAIN* for PC. There are evenings when the living room must remain silent and no video games are allowed. For this, I will gladly grab a cracked ISO of this game. I already paid for it, but in its original object-code form on the PS3. Money spent. I own a license. I will pull it down from the internet for the PC version and play it in the quiet of my office.

The royalties have been paid. I am a licensee.
UBISOFT can go f*ck itself if they think I will buy it twice!

To those of you who want to argue the "paid based in iteration and platform" and want me to buy it AGAIN: you can GO TO HELL!!

Want me to take a picture of myself holding a dozen games that I still use cracks for? lemme see, Loki, BF2, Diablo, D2, D2 LOD, AoP, LOTR (the damned thing didn't even come with a serial!), and I just threw out a couple dozen discs last weekend.
How about no-cd cracks and DRM cloakers? They are invaluable. Some games won't get passed the DRM if you simply have 2 DVD drives.
And to the matter of legality, I'm sure any judge would just send me on my merry way. =)

You have a licence for the PS3 version which is not transferable to the PC version, a simple concept that you do not seem able to understand. I suppose you feel that your driving licence (if you have one) allows you to fly a jet liner? after all it's a vehicle licence isn't it?

As long as it is not an evil rootkit scheme like Starforce (which Ubisoft used in many of their games) that's OK with me. I still have half a dozen games in my shelf that I have bought over the years and will never install just because they have Starforce protection.

I hope for your sake that you never have that thought tested, especially if it's the same judge who told a twelve year old to pay a few million in compensation to the music industry because she downloaded a song from her favourite boy band.

So, anyways, of all the ToS contradicting stuff that I've written over the past year, why is this the first time I've seen a mod even mention the ToS?
Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a mod trolling for lol's.

P.S. I'm Canadian, our lawmakers actually somewhat have their heads on properly. Our lawmakers and cops care more about drugs, vandalism, and violence.

Precisely why I went pc to ps3. Not enough of the games I want and too much headaches on pc anymore. Like my pc, but when I spent 3 hours getting ghostbusters to run right with all the errors and things, man might as well go to consoles. And I'm actually a computer tech by trade! I feel sorry for poor end users just wanting stuff to work.

I actually prefer always-online requirements to disk checks or rootkits. Then again I don't live in a country with third world internet access, which sadly includes a lot of the potential markets for this game. It's not meant as a slag against anyone or anything but I can see why people in the US and UK would be more worried as those countries generally have quite poor internet connectivity.

Never the less this is pretty much the future of DRM.

I still won't get the game though, partly because I have no real interest in the franchise and partly because I don't intend to give out any personal information to Ubisoft, which I'm sure is required as part of their account. I just have no issues with the always-online part.

To quote an old Sun adage - "The network _is_ the computer.".

Really, if I don't have internet access the least of my worries would be not being able to play this game. My computer would just be an expensive paperweight then.

I am a game developer myself. I placed my down payment since early Nov '09. I was disappoint when they had to delay the PC version but i understand they want to "create better" experience for PC since we got more power machines. Then they said it's going to be just DX9.... Fine(although it's still lame)! I can live with that, a good game doesn't always mean it needs to have cutting edge graphics. Now Ubi is telling me that this is going to have a new stupid DRM which kicks me of if my internet is down? Too bad for me that I live in place where internet is shitty and unstable and that I already paid the down payment. I wish they could have announced all these shit earlier. You just lost me, Ubi. Maybe i should do a video of smashing of my AC2 once i got it and post on youtube.

Even Steam let's you play offline. I won't be buying any Ubisoft games as long as they come with that. I pay for my games and i will not be subjected to more DRM than what Steam already provides.

Instead of complaining about drm and the fact that people will pirate and not buy a game because of it, think of a user-friendly solution.

I'm not too keen on the idea of game data being lost when my isp kicks either, but I'd rather have that then companies steering clear of the PC platform.

I'm not too keen on the idea of game data being lost when my isp kicks either, but I'd rather have that then companies steering clear of the PC platform.

This is a step in the right direction for DRM, and a better solution than "you only get 5 installs". It is still not perfect, but it is better.

Here's user friendly:
I buy the game, I use it any damned way I want.
Too bad the companies aren't too keen on that.

It's when companies stop believing that the interests of the consumer come first that they go to hell. Companies such as EA now have a poor reputation among many PC gamers due to their gross negligence.
I'd also rather invest in a company I have a persona affliction to (even if I knew I'd get good returns, I wouldn't invest a cent in EA).
