Athlon 1.1Ghz & Aopen AK73Pro Problem

I have just recently decided to build my machine. Hooked up components are as follows:

Maxtor 30GB 7200RPM ata/100, Creative Annilator 2, Lynksys 10/100 card, 2 extra USB that came with the motherboard. I disabled the onboard audio via J12 but did not put a PCI soundcard in yet.

I am experiencing a serious, and major, problem:

The AOpen AK73 Pro MB is vocally telling me that I "may have a problem with my processor." All aspects of the system are receiving power (all the fans run, the keyboard lights flash upon powering, and the RAM LED on the MB is lit)

I have connected the L1 pins with a graphite pencil. Using a magnifying glass, it's clear that none of the individual bridges are connected, just the L1 : : : :

What the heck is going on? Perhaps I should detach all my EIDE ribbon cables, see if it even displays anything on the screen? Or is my processor simply dead?

Another oddity is that once the system is powered, it will NOT turn off unless I remove the plug. The switch won't turn it off.

Thanks for your words of wisdom, everyone..

Hmmm, first of all did you bother to try the processor at stock speed to insure it was indeed functioning? Not familuar with your board is the voltage and clock multiplier adjusted in bios and or via jumpers on the board itself? My guess is the l1 bridges are not properly connected....pull the cpu and erase the pencil markings with some rubbing alcohol try at stock speed and first insure your processor is ok.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!
