You're a first time overclocker with an elaborate watercooling setup that covers your RAM, and you've doubled the voltage? But you're a first time overclocker, right?

It's funny, most first time overclockers try for a couple mhz on the core, they don't buy the most expensive and technically challenging watercooling setups available. Oh, and when people are starting out, they generally don't solder resistors on their videocard and double the voltage to their memory.

Its not like I havne't overclocked amps and things like that before. Its the same thing, but computer components are a bit more sensitive. Tell ya what I can send ya some screenshots of it will that make you happy?

I was doing this to try to prove a point, which I messed up on the test. The 9800 can't peform as well as the x800 that point came across right? Simple enough.
Overclocking with water cooled devices isn't hard, its reducing temperatures so that resistance in the sub micro lines decreases. Allowing more electricity to go though its circuts not hard to read the manual that came with the overclocking unit 😛. Its almost as easy as plugin and play for the part. I could make my own system that will work on freon instead of water. the only thing you have to becareful of is condensation.

BTW I said that this was my first time a while back if ya didn't catch back it then.

I wouldn't have done it if GW and Grape weren't so adement about thier stance on SUPERIOR ATI TECHNOLOGY.

Also that 2001 benchmark wasn't mine either just to clarify things. Which I was refering to one someone else overclock on 3dmark01.

Found out why I can't post them up that system's fire wall is blocking it and I can't really remove it since its in the network hub. And since that system has some senstive code I can't really give access to it. Gimmi a couple of days, I'll hook the network a bit differently

ATI is doing 33% less the calculations and using adaptive filtering (which is even more then 33%).

Point proven.

Was that what I was getting at with my math: 2/3 ?

Which consiqently really doesn't matter with today's games but will very soon.

Stalker, Far Cry already support Dx9c and I wouldn't be suprised if Carmack uses NV specific Ogl paths for Shader 3.0 model for Doom 3. Its not hard to add those in maybe a week or so.

For games shipping in 2003-2004, the multiple precision modes make some sense. It was a stopgap to allow apps to scale from DirectX8 to DirectX9 dealing with precision limits.

Long-term (looking out 12+ months), everything's got to be 32-bit IEEE floating point. With the third generation Unreal technology, we expect to require 32-bit IEEE everywhere, and any hardware that doesn't support that will either suffer major quality loss or won't work at all.

No no your missing the point I said it can pass for later, But Nvidia's structure is set up to do everything at 128 bit precision. Its doing more work uneccesarily hehe. Games don't really support it yet. But they are going to very soon. The game and engine we are working on right now is going to fully support because there is a major boost in speed. It isn't even funny the over of displacment maps have on cards that are sub shader 3.0.

Over all there is a 40% drop just because of using them.

The structure of hardware tesselation and displacment mapping on all models goes like this (simplified)

Pass 1

Vertex shader
Tesselate
Texture lookup with Pixel shader

Pass 2
Vertex shader 2
Displacment
Pixel shader
lighting per pixel

Nvidia's 6800 can do the texture lookup in the same pass as the tessalation and dispalcement

It look more like this

This is what I ment I was only scratching the surface Performance wise there is no way ATI will match Nvidia in FarCry, if and only if the did use Tesselation and displacment maps. Not really sure if they did :/. And that all comes down to the fact that it takes 2 passes.

Then make your choice about which card is best for you, Don't prejudge either technologies and say one is better then the other.

They are pretty much equal when it comes down to number cruching. But the end of it all Nvidia won this round by adding more features that will be usable
