Hey guys, I'm looking for a good 1920x1200 (16:10) monitor which seems to be super rare. It will be used for gaming, media consumption and just about everything, so vibrant and accurate colors would be nice.
Ideally, it would be somewhere between 22" and 28". Standard specs I'm looking for, 1000:1 CR, 5ms or less input lag, 16+mil colors yadayada. If there are built-in speakers, they should be pretty good, or else I'd rather get a dedicated set.
My budget would be about $300, give or take some.

So far 99% my Googling has taken me to 2010 or older posts and discussions, strange that seemingly nobody has searched for a 1920x1200 for 2 years. Common names were the Dell U410, Samsung Syncmaster XL2370, and various ASUS models, but I'm wondering if there's been any development in the 1920x1200 monitor market in this past 2 years.

Thanks for your help, guys!

P.S. Is it me or is there no sub-forum dedicated to monitors? :??: I chose Radeon subforum since my GPU is gonna be a 7850. Or should I have posted this under CPUs and Components - Other instead?

I have the 2440W, and I think it measures up nicely next to the U2411, but it does have some issues with certain shades of grey. The ZR24W has had some issue with manufacturing defects, and I have no idea if the later versions worked them out (things like a firmware bug that reported the monitor was 25" and confuses the graphics card, and issues with scaling to 1080).

The ZR24W uses the same panel as the U2410.
The ZR2440 uses the same panel as the U2412.

The U2412M seems to have generally higher contrast ratio and slightly darker black levels, but the ZR24W has (what appears to be) a slightly better tuned overdrive. The U2410 has a better panel than the U2412. Likewise the ZR24W has better panel then the ZR2440. The U2412 has the...
The Dell Ultrasharps are good monitors for the money. The U2410, or U2711 depending on if you want 24 or 27". I have had a 24" ultrasharp for years, it smokes even the $3,000 color correcting LCDs that are setup for matching print ready material. My two cents over. :)

What I can tell you is this: If you are not familiar with the various LCD technologies out there, it makes all the difference. Your basic monitor is a TN (Twisted Nematic) panel, which are the ones with awful color, they look blown and washed out, and have horrible viewing angles. Your mid grade, is a PVA(SPVA) (Patterned Vertical Allignment) then finally your top dogs are your IPS (In-Plane Switching) panels. The IPS panels are going to be expensive, but worth it. That's where you get the 178% viewing angles and the amazing depth and vibrance. Nothing beats the TN panels for refresh rate, like 2ms, but it's not like the other panels are much slower. Hope that helps at all.

Thanks for the suggestions!

The Samsung seems to be a very fitting monitor, but I'm considering bumping my budget to get a midrange IPS monitor like the Dell U2410. Quite surprised that there hasn't been more products like the U2410 for ~2 years, and that the price hasn't dropped significantly. It's still SGD$699 locally, about USD$500.

So far I noticed Asus's p-something-with-the-red-line(which upon further research, concluded that it was less fit for me than the U2410) and HP' zr24w and zr2440. It seems the zr24w is the best option for me, being cheaper than the newer 2440, better color gamut and less input lag of "5ms", according to official specs. Any thoughts on the zr24w vs 2440 thing? I doubt HP would release a "sequel" without worthy improvements besides energy efficiency.

The U2412 has the issue with it being a 6-bit + A-FRC (color width) versus the 8 bit panel in ZR24w and U2410.

Thanks sk1939 for the clarifications! I think I'll go with the ZR24W afterall, since it's about a hundred bucks cheaper, and I don't really need HDMI anyway.

Just realised my current TN screen has a 16ms input lag :S

Suddenly those 8ms figures I've been warned of doesn't seem so bad anymore.
