wow my 8500gt keeps going down faster than my budget for a enw system is moving up... i'm hoping the 6000 series will bring the 5000 series down, or maybe if nvidia drops 460's a bit by then might use one of those... i miss my college days when i could build a new rig every year with student loan money... cause payign back that student loan money isn't nearly as fun

"We already know that AMD has an end-of-year answer to Nvidia's recent activity. Perhaps it'll wait until then to pounce."

We do? What is it? Where can I find info on AMD's planned release?

Google my friend. The 6000 series is supposedly coming out november/december of this year, but realistically will be available in january/february (assuming they actually keep schedule). Personally I think waiting for it is a waste of time since they won't have any budget 6000 series cards (6850, 6830)? immediately anyways.

So I know the GTX 460 1Gb is the hot card in the $200+ range, and the evga GTX 460 1Gb SC is a reasonable performer that comes in at $250 with a lifetime warranty. I just picked up a evga GTX 465 1Gb SC for $215 with lifetime warranty. Good purchase? Or should I have spent a little more for the GTX 460?

i think that the gts 450 is like a low end video card like the 9600 gt from 2008 and the gtx 460 is a better high end version it is even like the 5850 the 460 is the only good videcard that nvidia has ever done

Blah blah blah, the GPU pissing contests and everyone thinking their so l33t to have the latest and greatest is too funny. I'm running a 4 year old 8800GT and have no problem playing today's games. Sure I might be missing a little better graphics if I squint due to no Ddx1 hell even dx10, but I'm not selling my soul for a current power sucking, case cramping, space heater until there's a genuine need too. Maybe because I've been gaming for over 25 years now I'm just starting to realize the waste of $ keeping up with the Jones's?

the 460 sucks for final fantasy xiv it can't even render water correctly took it back put my 4850 which it may be slower but it looks better.

imo a suggested tier fix:
5850 and gtx 470 in their own tier (not with the 280 or 285)
then 1 lower have the: 9800gx2, 285, 280 , (275)*, 460, 465, (4890, 5830)*
then 1 lower have the 260, 5770, 4870
*These ones are faster than the lower tier but slower than the one I put them in.
reasoning, the 470 and 5850 are definitely a tier higher than the rest mentioned above. The 460/465 is also more or less on par with a 280/285 but all four are a tier higher than 260/4870/5770.
The 5830, 275, and 4890 are like a mix.... I would say add another tier in between but that would cause clutter.

Another change imo would be for future articles to remove the tiers that are irrelevant for gaming or at least the tiers with cards that are loooong gone. This would allow you to create more precise tiers with less clutter.

Its all up to you, all in all i always enjoy reading this article plus the CPU one is nice too.

also if you remove the older tiers you could always post a link to this article if anybody wants to see their many year old 6600 gt on the list

I got my 5870 last October (2009). I have been enjoying this card for nearly 1 year, and it's still near the top of the list. This has got to be one of the best buys I ever made. I have a 30 inch monitor (2560x1600 resolution) and this is the first card I have been able to play nearly all of my games at full resolution with good settings. Hopefully these will drop in price and I can slip in a second card to get a really extended life.

The old tiers remain so people can see just how pathetic the Intel Graphics Media Decelerators are.
Still, dropping the bottom half-dozen tiers and maybe consolidating out some others might clean it up a bit.

[citation][nom]sparkle_ftw[/nom]I doubt 5750 in crossfire will return to the list since the gts 450 will scale better.[/citation]

I'm kind of surprised a nod didn't get thrown toward Radeon 5770 x2. It works in crossfire exceptionally well and with 5770's currently hovering on the 130-140 range, it's very viable to pick up a single 5770 when building and then pick up another one a few months down the road. Strangely though a 5770 x2 would sit in the 2nd or 3rd tier on the hierarchy, but I don't know if I would feel comfortable with that kind of placement.

I'm running a inno 3D GTX 460 768mb overclocked from "core Clock 675" to 850, "Shader Clock 1350" to 1700 and "Memory Clock 1800" to 2150 (MHz) @ 60 decrees Celsius, fan speed at 70% and that card runs rings around my previous Gts 250. Currently there's nothing that I cant run @ full specs. (Offcourse I'm not including "antialiasing") , but must say its for me the best value for money by far.
