BG1: what next?

Hi All,

I'm just about to finish BG1Tutu - I'm in the dungeon underneath
Durlag's tower, and I simply have to finish up there then pop back to
BG and kill Sarevok. I've done all the other TotSC quests and BG1
areas.

I've really enjoyed the Tutu - it's a tremendous achievement. I never
played BG1 beyond the Nashkel mines because I didn't really like the
UI, but the BG2 engine is vastly better. (Not to mention that being
able to make a party with a Kensai, a Monk, an Archer and a
Swashbuckler has been a lot of fun!)

So, what shall I do next? The obvious answer is go on to BG2 and then
ToB, which are waiting. I just wanted to check whether anyone would
recommend any other BG1 mods first. Dark Side of the Sword Coast?
Northern Tales of the Sword Coast? I've heard of both of these but
would love to know what you think of them. Worth installing and trying?

Tutu compatibility is not necessary - I'm quite happy to do a
reinstall. I'm thinking of trying the Big Picture and BGTrilogy. I know
BGT is an alternative to Tutu (rather than a follow-on), and I'm not
sure I'd want to play through BG1 again so soon, but if it adds a
must-play bit to BG1 then I'd give it a whirl.
Tell me what worked for you,

Wait a minute...before you went to the tower, didn't you get a quest to
retrieve a dagger for a dwarf in Ulgoth's Beard? If you find the dagger,
wouldn't you have to go back to Ulgoth's Beard to finish that quest?

And Therella, also in UB.
BTW, one need to see Hurgan Stoneblade and Therella before going
to DT.

Yeh yeh, sorry, I was too concise. I meant finish the tower, pop back
to UB to give back the dagger and stuff, and then go to BG and kill
Sarevok. Pretty nearly finished.

I did some research yesterday and found that DSotSC has been
re-released to be compatible with the Big Picture / BG Trilogy mod. So
I might try installing that and loading my savegame to do the DSotSC
stuff. The same modder is apparently working on NTotSC as well, but no
sign of it yet.

I also discovered that I missed out on the Secret of Bone Hill mod,
which I should have done during chapter 4. Ho hum.

The Big Picture mod has the most astonishing install instructions I've
ever seen (and I thought the Tutu was hard), but then again it does end
up with tons of extra content (Darkest Day, Shadows Over Soubar,
Tortured Souls, Check The Bodies, Never Ending Journey, etc. etc. etc.
- 8Gb total!). If I ever had a spare weekend to install it it would
probably keep me occupied for a year or so ...

You mentioned two things I hadn't heard about before - NTotSC and Secret of
Bone Hill. Do you have links?

Thanks

They're both on there, along with almost every other BG mod I've ever
heard of. Be warned though, the bandwidth from that site is atrocious -
5kb/sec max download.

There are certainly other places to get Bone Hill (just google for it),
but I don't know of any other sources of NTotSC yet. Like I said, the
modder who converted DSotSC (Sir Billybob) to the Big Picture is
working on a NTotSC conversion too, but until then only the old version
is available.

Best,
