offer on a 8x DVD +-RW drive from BTC going cheap, dont know how this performs to other drives like the pioneer 8x... any notions ???

I don't know how good BTC is, but LiteOn is always a good inexpensive purchase.

At this moment, LiteOn SOHW-812S is the best sub $100 drive that you can buy.

LOL@BTC! Dude, every BTC CD-ROM drive I've owned was unable to load Win9x from CD, because it took so long to spin up Setup thought the CD wasn't installed "cannot find file, please insert disk" errors!

Now I suppose they've improved, but only by as little as possible.

Consider the NEC ND-2500A, it's been selling for around $80, does 8x DVD recording in both formats, etc. I did a review at Sysopt.

I'd stay away from BTC. I bought 2 of its CDRW drives over time, and none of them work (not even be able to boot CD).

:smile: Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.
