Question Built-in Laptop Display is plugged into the laptop's motherboard rather than the GPU, why?

My mother (yes, mother) recently purchased an Acer Nitro 5. I noticed the contrast on it was wayyyy too much so I tried to go into the Graphics Card's driver control panel (Nividia Control Panel), but I noticed there were zero options to alter color or any of the normal settings you'd expect. Upon further investigation, I noticed it was reporting the display was plugged into the motherboard's output, using the CPU's built-in graphics. I thought this was a manufacturing error so we returned it and got a new one. Then, badabing badaboom, the same issue persists. Is this normal? Why is the built-in display plugged into the motherboard (if it even is, I can't open it up because it'll ruin the warranty). It pretty much seems like the graphics card is just sitting idly doing nothing.

How does the GPU kick in even when it's not plugged into the display. Do GPUs in laptops function differently?
