I'm trying to build a pc that I'm going to buy my brother tommorow so I want to know wether I chose right GPU and CPU:
Gpu: since I'm limited to two manufacturers either
XFX 6700 Speedster Swift 10gb
or
PowerColor Fighter 6700 10gb
both are around 345$

CPU: R7 7700 = 415$

I've done quite a research and tbh these two seemed to be the best value for price, maybe I can go with sapphire 6700xt which is 410$.

I must agree with Lutfij because the Powercolor Fighter's cooling solution is more meant for fitting in small places rather than high-performance cooling. It will also be louder because it only has two fans but at only 228mm long, it will fit in almost any case:

The XFX Speedster SWFT is a triple-fan design meant for high-performance cooling and quiet operation. The one caveat is the fact that, at 304mm long, it is a much longer card than the Powercolor Fighter and it might have trouble fitting into a small µATX case.:

You'll want to measure how much video card room your case has before making your decision. If they both fit, get the XFX. If only the Powercolor fits, get the Powercolor. If neither of them fits, well, then you're screwed.

Don't worry. The Powercolor Fighter is one of the smallest twin-fan video cards that I've ever seen. Even if the XFX doesn't fit, the Powercolor will for sure. ;)

I would like to point out however, that if your brother cares mostly about gaming performance, you'd be much better off with an R5-7600 CPU coupled with an RX 6750 XT over what you have (depending on how much things cost wherever you are). That would give better frame rates than the coupling that you have and it would give him 12GB of VRAM instead of only 10.

The RX 6750 XT is only $50USD more than the RX 6700 ($330 vs $280 in the USA) while the R5-7600 is $111USD less than the R7-7700 ($219 vs $330, also in the USA) so you just might be able to pull it off and make that system really sing in games for even less money than you were planning to spend in the first place.

It's just a thought...

I'll second this comment, you don't need an R7-7700 for gaming. I have a R5-7600x with an RX 7900xt and I'm not CPU limited at 1440p 165Hz.

sure you don't need a 7700x for gaming, however, I play a game called Beamng.drive (not sure if you've heard of it) and it is very CPU-intensive because the game has to do lots of physics calculations to make the crashes look as realistic as they do. Now sure my 7700x is still overkill for this game, but that gives me breathing room to have as many AI as the game will let me.

Yeah, but that game is rather obscure (and therefore, very niche). I think that it's a good example of the exception that proves the rule. It's good that you mentioned it though, on the off-chance that his brother does play that game.

Since we never have 100% of the information (like what games are to be played), we are often forced to deal in generalisation. The odds are that he'll be playing far more mainstream titles (which is what makes them mainstream) in which a six-core CPU and an RX 6700/50 XT would give far better performance and gaming longevity.

I love the game because you can do so many things with it and there are so many mods for the game too. I think the game looks decent at 1080p ultra and runs well too.

did you forget to reply to my conversation post?

Yeah, as long as you have a good CPU. Speaking of which, I have come to the conclusion that I am 100% CPU-bound in Starfield at 4K Ultra with FSR off.

4K Ultra FSR OFF: 57-62FPS
4K Ultra FSR ON: 57-62FPS
4K Medium FSR OFF: 57-62FPS
4K Medium FSR ON: 57-62FPS

I tested it running up and down the same hallway in the lodge. I couldn't get any difference.

guess it's time to upgrade your CPU. It is ridiculous that you are bottlenecked at 4k with a 5800x3d. Starfield must not take advantage of 3d v-cache since at 1080p my CPU is not a bottleneck.

I disagree because this is the only game in which I'm CPU-bottlenecked and my display is only 60Hz anyway so I'm still getting a perfect experience. In Hogwarts: Legacy, I was getting well over 100FPS so I know that Starfield is just an outlier, an outlier that's still giving me a perfect experience.

I agree that it's ridiculous but as long as I'm getting my ~60FPS, I don't really care. I mean, what's the point of ensuring that your CPU can produce more FPS than your screen can show?

It's also a bit of a testament to the awesome power of the RX 7900 XTX. ;)
