Like I want to know what the difference is between a slot and all the differnt socket types are.. Like how do you tell what socket one you got on an old cpu? or tell if its socket or slot.

Slot 1 is P2s and old P3s. Socket 468 is AMD Athlon XP. Socket 754 is Athlon XP 64bits. Socket 940 is Athlon FX. AMD will also release soon Socket 939 which will be used by Athlons XPs as well as FXs.
Socket 370 is new P3s. Socket 423 is P4s with Wilamette core. Socket 478 is P4s, some with Wilamette but most with Nortwood core. Newer CPUs using this core are the Prescott and P4EE, can't remember core name, maybe Clawhammer, not sure.
A program called CPU-ID will tell you all about your processor.

Abit IS7 @ 275 FSB, OCZ PC4200 RAM @ 550Mhz, P4 2.4 @ 3.3Ghz Vcore @ 1.625, Sapphire Radeon 9800P @ stock, for now.
Thermalright SLK-947U, P3 HS @ NB.
