[SOLVED] Can you power a DVD drive with Molex to Sata adapter

I have used a molex to sata connection for a dvd for a long time with no issue.

What is the make/model of your psu?
If it is a cheap quality unit, that is where any potential danger comes from.
A cheap PSU will be made of substandard components. It will not have safety and overload protections.
The danger is if it fails under load, it can destroy anything it is connected to.

I wonder what would make a fire from a pc component with a molex or a converter from/to.. i was sure that would fry them but idk

Storage and optical drives are low powered devices. You can typically get away with using molex to SATA adapters in these cases with little cause for concern. It's when you're trying to run higher powered devices like graphic cards using a molex to 6+2pin PCIE connector (up to 150 watts) that is cause for concern.
