Cannot access shared folder vpn xp

Hello,
I have set up a vpn connection at our office. I have two client computers in different locations, one Windows 7 the other xp home. The one running 7 can access the folder "shared" by mapping "\\xxx.xxx.x.xx\shared. The one running xp appears to map the drive however I get an error "z:\ is no accessable, access is denied." What issues could cause the xp not to connect but win 7 connects fine?

If the shared folder is itself part of a Windows 7 homegroup, it will only be accesible to other Windows 7 systems.
