How cheap? Top of the line 939 would be the Opty 185. Just look through that list and see what matches your price. I just would advise against the FX 57, decent performer, but no dual core.

if you can find one, a San Diego is a nice single core processor.. i have mine rock solid at 2.8Ghz at 1.55V... it has a 1MB L2 Cache and is the core of choice for single core 939 FX chips.

There are a couple floating around the GTA for about 150$... and I think thats a damn good deal.

can i have a link to the list?

The link is the list, just scroll down from the 185.

Regarding Trinitron's remark, I would still go for a dual core if it's in your price range. Many apps are multi-threaded now, and they're still great for multitasking.

Right now I have a amd 64 3000+ and i would like a better one for a cheap price do you know of any?
The cheapest (findable) dual core should be the Opteron 165 (~$150-160) and for $170-180 you can get an opty 170;they are both great overclockers and a good investment in an increasingly expensive 939 market.
I'd not advice you something like a FX-57; great single core chip but not comparable to a dual core.

thank you very much you are much help. so you think this will run games fine then if i have a 7600 gs?
Games and more; If you have a decent board you can overclock this thing up to 2.6-2.8GHz on air, multitasking is greater than any single core. Buy it now that it's cheap and available; you won't regret it.

Quite respectable board; you could send that opteron to 2.4-2.6GHz without much trouble on that board and neither the board, nor the Opteron will be harmed by any amount, 2.6-2.8GHz will need some serious voltage bumping and I'd not advice this much if you're a beginner. However, to start off, get that opty and send it to at least 2.4GHz; you won't have any trouble if you take the time to read any OCing article

try this and OC it
He already has a 3000+ and the chip you recommended would be a small useless upgrade.

Gues you never used AMD athlon64s or never used anything clocked higher then 3000+. He also asked a cheap upgrade. Your post is useless though. Maybe next time.
400mhz upgrade+200mhz OC? Useless? lol stop trollin foo.

You might want to try to get a 4000+ online from ebay. It will give you a bit more life and for a bargain price. They can be easily overclocked to 2.8GHz or higher depending on your board. This is more than you really need for gaming, as gaming is largely GPU limited.

I think everyone is wasting time trying to help SkilzDatKilz2. It keeps going around in circle. What you think? He also wants a cheap video card and it same way with that request.

What's your setup and I'll give you more specific advice. If I knew what you have, your budget, what you use your computer for, and how long you want it to last, you will get a much better answer.

As you all know I am looking to upgrade my processor. The point in me upgrading is because I would like to be able to run games smoothly. I was mainly looking at dual core processors. Right now I have this motherboard so I am looking for something that would work with that. I just found out that that motherboard has both socket 939 and AM2. I would like to spend little as possible but still be able to notice a difference in performance.

System Specs.
AMD 64 3000+
Nvidia 6600 TD (upgrading to this)
1GB Patriot Ram
160GB SATA II HDD

Please any help would be greatly appreciated!
