Hey guys I’m slowly building a using old and new parts this Friday I will have my new ram, cpu, mobo, and boot drive. I will be using my gpu, and psu off my old build.

Which leaves a cooler and a case. Just so I can use the the system for a few weeks until I can get a proper cooler and case. I’d like to use my old case for now.

The case has 3 90mm fans, one fan in the front one on top and one at the back so not great airflow.
What’s the cheapest cooler that’ll get me by with a 11700k, or should I just wait a few weeks?

It is rather a shame that the inflation has brought coolers to where they are. I would have recommended a Scythe (as above) or a Snowman but they are up into the ~$50 range now. IF you are going to spend $50 on a temporary solution I would probably skip that and go ahead with something that will work for the final build.

As a for instance, this is a spectacular and well reviewed cooler for $99:

Amazon.com: Noctua NH-D15, Premium CPU Cooler with 2X NF-A15 PWM 140mm Fans (Brown) : Electronics

IMO, if you were going to go inexpensive-ish the linked Deepcool above has a nicely finned cooler as compared to the Scythe.
Hyper 212 Evo would have been a suggestion, but they should cost sub $40 and in honesty wouldn't be enough to deal with this under heavy load or an OC.

is about $35 and can easily cool 200w of power.

can't think of anything better for such a cheap price. it is a double tower so it is rather large like the dark rock 4 and other such coolers. i have one o my 5900x and at 200w used, it keeps the cpu under 80 degrees. looking at reviews of the 11700k it seems to hit about 200w at torture load so i'd expect similar performance for it. also consider you won't use that 200w at normal load and it'll be even better.

Yeah the problem is up here in Canada those evos are 70$ and up coolers minimum plus shipping and a 13% tax. The scythe if you can fine one is 130, and the noctua is what I’d be getting probably as my end cooler they cost 120 up here, that or a L240 gammaxx. That’s why I was looking for a diamond in the rough
