Core 2 duo or P4?

E4300 all the way for everything (except heating your room in winter,drying your hair near the exhaust fan and cooking).

E4300 wins by a mile. Buying 533MHz Pentium 4's are like buying a tricycle when you get your drivers license.

By the way, there is no such thing as a stupid question... well.. maybe there is.

my P4 came with my comp, but over the past yr ive been upgrading it and since the Xore 2 Duo came out im trying to get one without replacing my mobo (which is a very basic one FYI)

Hnn, how old is this motherboard? This could be a factor which limits the road to Core 2 Duo. Even if you have a Skt775 motherboard, only those that came out in the last two years support Core 2 Duo. If you have a Skt478 board, then you are totally screwed and need to upgrade your board, possibly your RAM and video card, and maybe even your PSU.

I have a Intel 915GV ghipset, it has a LGA 775 socket. The only 2 downsides i find with it is thast it wont allow me to OC and it only has 2 PCI slots, no AGP or PCIe x16

oh and my mobo can handle 533mhz or 800mhz FBS. I recently bought a 580w PSU and a new video card. Its not the greatest but it does what i want it to do. 😀 if u want my full specs i can show it but otherwise im not.

in what way? from what ive reserched the e4300 is 800mhz FBS and LGA 775 and from waht i understand it is not 64bit i think andmy mobo supports 533 to 800mhz and it has a LGA 775 socket and is 32bit. Am i missing something?

The Core 2 Duo means "All-Of-Them" including any Core 2 Duo that may happen to have a 800FSB. The Core 2 Duo is not compatible with any Chipset older than 2006 Mostly the Intel 945-965-975 Chipsets. If you had done a little more research it would have said that you needed these new chips.

The C2D's need a new kind of voltage regulator to function, without it your screwed. Thats why mobo manufacturers released revisions to the boards with chipsets that would support the Core 2's. They just tacked on the new voltage regulator. If you want a better explanation this pdf covers it.

@slim142
When you see the same question repeated ad nauseum, you'll get to be the same way.

But didnt you see this guy has 7 posts, I think thats enough to conclude that he doesnt really know and he really wants to know and learn. Now if we talk about the boms who come here (like the guy saying a quadro fx5400 was better than the 8800gtx in gaming) and gets annoying, then thats a reason to become angry.

But it was a simple questiong that could have been answered by googling a review, or looking at some benchmarks.
