cpu boxed ?

Boxed is retail. Gives you the stock fan, which works great if you're not going to overclock. And, you get the AMD sticker. I just put together an 1800+ with stock fan and I left the themal tape on. You really don't need to use Artic Silver. A waste of money IMHO.

The sticker is what makes it all worthwhile 😎

The price difference is generally only a few bucks. Usually worth getting the retail, though it used to be a better option to get an OEM (back when I got my 1.2 Tbird). You get the sticker, warranty and a heatsink that is at least a good backup in case a fan dies or something.

the difference is about $50, enough difference for me. i wanted to go for the volcano 7+, anyway.

the other thing you said is that there is extended warranty ?!?! isn't there any with the non boxed cpu ?

$50 difference for which?

The 3 year warranty is from AMD if you use the included heatsink. With an OEM CPU, the only warranty is from the dealer, typically 30 days.

i am from austria. for the XP 2100 it is $50, XP 2000 is $40. just for comment: our base warranty is a half year.

if i use a volcano instead of the included heatsink, i use a better component and get less warranty ?

The more i ask in here, the more puzzled i get ...

No, Don't get puzzled... If you are not going to over clock go with the cheapest way that will work for you. You will still get great proformance out of an xp 2000+. Just get the boxed cpu and fan and you will be fine. There is no one in this forum that will tell you any different. Just buy the retail box and don't worry about anything else. Your system will run great.....

Right FATBURGER??
