Question Cpu cooler screws will not go in

So I’ve been following a tutorial on how to build a pc but the installation of the cpu cooler really has me stumped. I’ve removed the two things you have to remove and have put the cpu in the spot it should be already. I’m also doing the criss cross pattern I’m being told to use and pushing a ton of pressure onto these screws but it never works. The screws will barely move into the hole and when it does move into it successfully the screws at the opposite side will float up where I can’t screw then in. I’ve tried putting pressure to the screws floating as well but they barely get anywhere close to the hole enough for me to screw them in. I’ve tried screwing them in different orders, equaling out the tightness, and whatever other suggestions I could find on the internet but none could help me install the cooler. Is there any way this can be installed correctly?
