you know,...it is so funny when I see ppl here claim that Amd processor have no heat related issues, but then I see them talk about doing all these wierd things they do to their cases just to keep them cool!...

...And then I see all these post about fried chips, I would say for every "crispy-well done" p3 there must be a dozen "deep fried" Athlons...

...I'm pretty sure that the vapochill case was developed specificly for the athlon. hehe.

Having only been watching this forum for a couple of weeks (thus stranger) I have to say that you need a new hobby or perhaps a life. It is rather pitiful that the only thing you seem to do with your almighty pentium is bash AMD owners. Maybe you should try some porn sites or GED classes or write a letter to Santa. At the very least do something constructive with your time and let people with problems get answers. In all of the places where I see your nic I see nothing even remotely helpful. Dont you have any one at home to talk to? It is for people like yourself that I have the nic Pat McGroin may yours could become Stu Pididiot.

Hellloooo... Yo i'm a new Athlon User and strictly right now i'm proud to be one coz it's working well over my expectation.... but anyway i would really, really need a bit of info about the matter of heat.... I'm using an Athlon 750Mhz (no overclocking done) with MSI K7T Pro2 for a mobo.... anyway i had for a few times check the temp using Sandra's sissoft software for my cpu and it had stated the temp of 88 celcius or something like that.. is the heat normal for this cpu? or is it too hot? What the temp limit for the cpu? I really need help here coz i don't know where to find help...

all the examples and proof are all over these amd user forums.

Most of them are ppl's fault not the cpu, But the ratio of amd chips frying to p3/p4 frying are like 6 to 1.

this is just an observation and It may be less but still, amd DOES have heat related issues and ppl should know this.

Just like intel chips have bugs and issues and may not have an attractive price point(in the eyes of common ppl or students). People should know!

no matter what chip is inside, there's still an idiot outside!

It's almost impossible to fry a coppermine PIII because of thermal overload protection. A person would have to do something really stupid, like using the wire trick to get 2.05v, and then cranking it up even more, or putting it on an ealier motherboard where it is totally not supported. I don't think you can melt a PIII, I think it will always shut down first, maybe even prmanantly if the voltage was high enough to erode that circuit!
Meanwhile, AMD's can fry just sitting there if the fan dies, no shuttdown, but that only happens if you do something stupid like trying to use a cheap hs/f and overclock without thermal shutdown working on the motherboard or software. So either way it is the responsibility of the owner. Sure, PIII's are more idiot proof, but all it take is a better breed of idiot to ruin even them! How many have you burned?

use a program like motherboard monitor to check temps.
some releases of sisoft read the temps wrong.
had the same prob until i got version 2001

They are more likely to burn up than intel processors...Fact
and well thats about it for the pro's of the intel chips

( btw you are more likely to have a fatal accident in a corvette than a tractor also)

Now what about the negatives of the intel processors?
1) they are ridiculously overpriced
2) they cannot be unlocked and only overclocked by increasing the fsb ( this alone negates the thermal protection issue in my book)
3) they may never hit anything beyond 1 gig ( talking p3's here)
4) the ones that do will need RAMBUS memory
5) everyone seems to have forgotten that little "big brother is watching issue" yeah now thats the kind of company I want to do business with.

You want to use a cheap hs/fan yeah get an intel
do you have zero or very little computer skill...get an intel. Cost no object? get an alpha

your argument is getting rather pathetic meltdown maybe you see more amd chips burned on this forum do to the fact that about 4 out of 5 people on this forum use AMD chips? Ever consider that?

I just set up my new PC with A7V mobo and 1200MHz Athlon and it rocks! NO stability problems, NO temperature problems, NO special tricks to keep temperature low, NO NOTHING! Only a superfast, rock stable PC!

No one will deny that athlon's run hot, but they've got lots of advantages which make it worth while. If you're going to run it at stock clock then some $7 heatsink fan will do. Because people tend to overclock the snot out of athlons (because you can!) heat becomes more of an issue.

Vapochill has the best results with the P4. Heat is the limiting factor on that processor. If it ran cool intel could probably produce 2.5ghz chips on .18, right now or very soon. Instead they have to drop to .13.

My PIII-500 runs 8C hotter (50C vrs 42C) then my TBird-900. No special cooling on either.

Some of us are strange, yes, and we like to try to achieve the lowest possible temperature. It's kind of like when people would work on cars all the time and they would try to install bigger and better engines. Not because it was needed or anything, but just because they wanted to overcome the challenge. Speaking for myself, I am happy that I've achieved my all-time low temperature. It's nothing spectacular, just 25C, but it's the lowest I've achieved yet. And yeah, I drilled holes in my previous case! But my previous computer was a dual Celeron 400 on a BP6 overclocked to 500. And you know what, it reached a higher temperature than my AMD ever has. The Celerons sat around at 50C, when not overclocked it was about 40C. Anyway, point being that things like the Vapochill were designed for (and most likely by) us speedfreaks, temp-freaks, whatever.
