I build my first PC and bought a AMD Ryzen 5 7600X and now I think its running too hot. I have a NZXT Kraken Elite IO cooler. The CPU has an 8%-18% usage in normal condition and it gets up to 55°. I didnt aply any thermal paste because it was included in the Kraken Elite. Was that a mistake?
If I start watching a Youtube Video the usage gets up to over 25% with a temp of 70°.
Is that normal or what could be the Problem there?

Hey there,

Yeah, it seems a little on the high side for me. When you installed the new cooler did you take of the protective screen first?

Are you 100% sure the paste that was pre-applied was even before installing the pump?

I did what he did in the Youtube video:

I did not apply thermal paste myself was that a mistake? I used the one that was already on the pump

Respectable

Where is the Kraken's pump connected on the motherboard. I've not used an AIO, preferring big air coolers, but my understanding is the pump motor should be run at full speed (constant +12V) whilst the radiator fan speed is controlled by the CPU temperature. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Check which headers the pump and radiator fans are connected to on the motherboard. If you have headers marked Pump and CPU_Fan, it's a fair bet you should be using them. Check the fan speed profiles, especially that of the pump. If necessary, set the pump to full speed at all temperratures and see what happens.

I used the one that was already on the pump
If the block housing the pump came with pre-applied thermal paste, that should be fine. No point in adding more paste. It will simply make things worse. Too much paste is just as bad as too little paste. There's a happy medium regarding paste thickness.

If I start watching a Youtube Video the usage gets up to over 25% with a temp of 70°.

Just for reference, my 7950X sits in the mid eighties when running hard and all cores peak at 95 degrees from time to time. Ryzens can run hot with no problems.

some folk will argue that you should clean it off and use a high end paste that you know what it is, but honestly the one it comes with for the first few years should be fine, and your system is running hotter than it should be. There isn't a label to peel off on that one or anything fancy, you just take off the packaging and the paste is there ready to go, however it is possible to seat it wrong, that can sometimes happen

failing that, check you definitely plugged the pump into the correct place on the mobo

sharing some photo's of your build would also help

[edit] looks some other folk replied while I was typing with pretty much the same thing, oops :)

"Too hot" is hard to say because there are too many variables. Things like you case and fan positions and even the internal temp of your house can cause big difference.

Best first test is run cinebench. This is a worst case test. Does the CPU hit the thermal throttle limits even with the fans running at max. If not then technically your machine it not too hot. It might be too noisy because of the fans but it is not overheating.

Be very careful about chasing cooling numbers. As long as the cpu does not thermal throttle the actual number you see doesn't really matter.
