I haven't tried the Maximum Immersion mod by itself, but I did play it as part of the REALoaded mod.

Definitely some cool stuff going on with the DoF and camera bob. Overall, it definitely gives the game a bit more modern feel. Hated the new weapon sounds, though. 😉

Make sure to get all the high-res texture packs to really make the game shine.........you just drop these .pak files into your ...\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Game folder.

Rygel's (this is the big one)
www.crydev.net/viewtopic.php?t=67342

You need to apply a fix to the Rygel pack:
-Open zzTexturesupdatepart1.pak (you can use WinRar or 7-Zip)
-Browse to Objects/natural/Bushes/RoundLeafBush and delete Leaves_a.dds

Slicer's Pak:

Rocks (don't forget this one.....Crysis rocks are horrible without it)
http://www.mediafire.com/?hceb7tah3qe97bl

This file starts with zz_ , and you need to add another z to the beginning, so that it's zzz_

Silent's High-Res Foliage:

This file starts with zz_ , and you need to add another z to the beginning, so that it's zzz_

XZero's water shader:

Also, I'm not sure if Maximum Immersion includes this, but you certainly need it if it doesn't:

XZero's POM/AF Global Ambient Lighting mod:

After dropping this .pak into your ...\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Game folder like the rest of the pak files, you'll need to delete the "ShaderCache.pak" file, and you'll also need to go to My Documents\My Games\Crysis and delete the "Shaders" folder. This will cause the shaders to recompile the next time you start the game, so don't freak out when you load up a level and there's basically nothing there but some blank surfaces and models for awhile.

Without this mod, you'll never get that "DX11" look to the terrain textures:

Is that amazing, or what? You don't see ground textures like that in BF3. 😉

It's good that you two are taking the time to post that much info about Crysis modding, because there is a severe lack of up-to-date competent information on the subject currently. Really nice way to provide a community resource for this topic in particular which has a ton of dead ends otherwise as you dig through google hit results.

That's awesome. I'm going to have to go digging through these later.

PCgamer: I thought the intro was definitely super dark, but that's what night vision is for, right? Although I put the flashlight attachment on my gun and I feel like the light is super weak, like it only works for about 5 meters in front of you. Once the sun came up, wow. Really nice!

I know what you mean about those files and info being hard to find. It all used to be readily available at CryMod until they dropped their database (or whatever happened) and now it's kind of pick and hunt to find the files.

I found these working links awhile back because I was going to make an official "Mod Crysis" thread, but I never got around to it.

You should! That would be really useful. Especially if you've figure out compatibility and what mod combination looks the best.

One thing that really amazes me about CryEngine2 is the lighting. Even though it isn't as big of a deal now, you have to remember that CryEngine2 was developed in 2006. I still spend countless hours messing around in the SDK with the lighting. I'll tweak endlessly and then yell to my wife to come look at how pretty it is.....she just says "That's nice dear" or something to that effect, but I just find the whole thing pretty amazing.

Can I join in? :)
First of all,
Thanks PCgamer_81!
I was looking on how to install the Maximum immersion mod for a long time. Thanks for that post!

Also, could you tell me how to enable head bobbing in Crysis? I kinda like the drunked camera.

It should be enabled by default. The head-bob is actually a flowgraph developed by a forum member on CryDev, the "Maximum Immersion" mod included it as part of the package.

Hey man, that's awesome.

I thought the same thing. The beautifully stylized world of Rayman origins is something to behold. I don't have it yet, but I definitely plan to pick that one up. I have definitely been impressed with the "look" so far. I also have both Trine games and those are absolutely gorgeous. I have Rocket Knight (the remake), and while it's not in Rayman or Trine's league, the graphics are pretty good.

It's funny you bring up art direction vs actual graphics, because I was playing Deus Ex Human Revolution earlier today and it occurred to me that while the graphics probably aren't any better than Half Life 2's graphics (except the DX11 exclusive features and HDR), the art direction is what really gives that game it's flare.

Just wait until you get into the jungle (I mean the real jungle, not the jungle that's on the beach) and there are enemies dispersed throughout. Sneaking around in the dark using NV and going by what little moon light is something. You also have to get real still and listen for sounds. It helps to have a sound card and 5.1 so you don't just hear sound but know where it's at and how far away.

I have to rate these on how much I have enjoyed playing them, I have played Crysis 2 through more than any game I have ever played except #1 was Aliens vs Predator on the Atari Jaguar game system, and #2 was Serious Sam Second Encounter online PC CO-OP multiplayer, #3 definitely the original FarCry.

When Crysis 2 DX11 was released it was like a new game all over again, unfortunately most games for me are one timers and a total waste after the first play through.

Games of the quality level of the original FarCry and Crysis are classic legends IMO.

Crysis was great but I lost interest every time I played through when I got to the alien ship floating around inside, caught myself numerous times playing up to the ship and stopping at that point.

Crysis Warhead brought some interesting new elements, I liked the claymores and the vehicle mines, it brought a little more reality, then those additions were discarded in Crysis 2, however I have really enjoyed the C4 in Crysis 2.

Regarding Crysis 2, I personally think any game with a Sniper Rifle should allow firing from a prone position, because that is exactly what a sniper will do, they don't fire from a standing or crouching position unless they're just stupid.

I'm not really sure why they decided to discard some of the things relating to the original Crysis that would have been good to have carried into Crysis 2, but they did?

So despite all the negatives regarding Crysis 2, I still love playing the game in DX11.

Excellent, excellent, excellent post.

I agree with every single point you made.

I do have a question, however.

Have you ever played the new Aliens vs Predator? I have been thinking about grabbing it but I just wanted to talk to someone who has actually played it first.

I was really disappointed with AvP......I only got about 3 hours into the game and just stopped playing it. I tried, but I just couldn't get into it. The whole game just felt really uninspired to me.....the art direction, the story, the graphics, etc...

I'm with you on Shift 2 Casual, one of my favorites all time. I play Dirt 3 sometimes but I just can't get into the gymkhana sessions at all. I really just want to race. What's your best or favorite car in Shift 2?

Here's a compilation video I made by the way: http://youtu.be/otMizbi2upE

I copy that one loud and clear, my sentiments since starting the game. Even though Shift 2 only uses dx9, I still feel that it's a way better looking game.

Hmmmm....I downloaded Maximum Immersion to give it a go and I couldn't get it to load. Absolutely can't figure out why - - I have no problem loading any of the other mods, but this one refuses to load. Going to have to look into it....

Yes, All 3 options all the way through and this may sound weird but my favorite play through is the Alien, I just really like what can be done with it, walking on ceilings and walls is really cool and can be a little disorienting at times, but overall I really like the Aliens capabilities.

The Marine play through was always my favorite in previous games but the flame thrower is useless, it only works good on the Face Huggers, it will get you killed because when you torch up a full sized Alien running towards you, they don't die right off and will run right into you on fire and you die too.

The Marine is really hard starting out, you have to persevere until you gain access to better weapons, simple as that, and then you have to learn what weapons to pick up and what weapons to just leave alone, there are a few weapons that will take you all the way through the game, that's all I'm going to say regarding that.

The Predator is cool but complicated to control all his capabilities, takes a lot of practice to get really good with what he can do.

IMO it's not a game to have left out of your gaming experience some liked it some didn't that won't change for any games ever released, I go back and play it every now and then.

Okay, so I've downloaded and installed both the natural mod and the Maximum Immersion.
Works really well. :)
Although, I'm a bit annoyed by the noises. Is this is a glitch or something? Cause every time I try to reload or aim down the sight, I hear this noise. Sound of a sniper rifle firing. Is that a bug or something? Also, the noises of the firing of the gun seems to have changed too.

I just decided to scrap my install and start fresh.....now it loads the mod. (yay!) I'm going to mess with the CFG in the mod to see if I can back off some of the color saturation and SSAO darkening, which are IMO a little bit too much. I really dig the headbob and DoF tweaks.....it kind of makes you feel like you're in an action movie. Gun sounds....just as I remember from REALoaded, are terrible. 😉 One thing I noticed is that he included the increased weapon damage add-on by default, which is nice.

One thing to note.....this mod uses a tweaked version of RELI2 for the ToD files, so installing the Natural Mod (first link above) will have no effect. Once the mod loads it's going to use RELI2.

If you install Natural Mod, however, you can still check out what it's all about by loading up a game without running the mod. Natural Mod basically seems to desaturate the colors a bit, increases fog levels, and also increases ray visibility and power. It looks nice for a bit different vibe.

Hmm...that's weird. There is an added weapon noise when you raise to sight, but it's more of a clanking metal noise....sounds like somehow instead of getting that sound it's triggering a sniper fire sound. And yes...the weapon sounds (and some other sounds) are changed in the mod.

BTW.....installing the Natural Mod will not effect the Maximum Immersion mod........they are conflicting ToD's (Time of Day, or "lighting" files...the ToD settings in CryEngine contain a huge array of variables that can completely change the way the game looks in nearly every visual aspect).

I added some notes to my initial "texture packs" post I'd made earlier (I'd forgotten a few things about installing them).

Maximum immersion freaked out when I installed the texture packs (I'm not sure why). All the packs worked fine with REALoaded, so if you want to be able to use them, but still have the Maximum Immersion mod, than you might just install the REALoaded Mod (which the contains Maximum Immersion mod).

Thanks man! I have really been liking the look of that of one and been wanting to pick it up.

Yes, everything has been changed to more closely resemble real life. Believe me, once you get used to it you won't go back to vanilla.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I had installed the Natural mod as soon as I got the game and it wasn't until several months later that I installed maximum immersion. I just wanted to make sure that anyone installing the mods got it to look as good as it does for me.

But I still recommend installing the Natural mod too, because it doesn't load up like the MI mod and it's there from then on.
