Dell dimension e510 cpu upgrade

Hi, I have a dell dimension e510 that i am looking to upgrade the cpu. I would like to know if there are any processors that i can upgrade to without replacing the motherboard. plz link them. thank you

What processor does it have now? WE can give you all kinds of proc.s that will fit the socket but, if you already have one of the best for the board/socket, you would be degrading your PC. It appears that it is a socket 775 from 2005. This leads me to believe the best CPU you could use/compatible would be something like a 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 HT with 800MHZ FSB; 3.40GHz 1M-Cache 800MHz FSB) [Prescott] OR , older Gen/lower clock [Northwood] units. Maybe, just maybe a Pentium D 820 would work (2M-Cache-2.80GHz-800MHz FSB) [Smithfield]

The computer came with a Pentium D cpu 2.85GHz 2.79 Ghz. also i tried to search the one you posted up top but couldn't find it. if u find 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 HT with 800MHZ FSB; 3.40GHz 1M-Cache 800MHz FSB) [Prescott could you put a link on this forum. thank you

The pentium 4 is a downgrade from the Pentium D your machine came with. If possible, can you list which Pentium D you have? I have a Pentium D 820 and Pentium D 915, both of them are 2.8GHz clock but different cache size. Yours may be totally different but, can you tell us which yours is? If you need help finding that information, download CPUz (the non-installer, .zip file) and list the "Name) under the "Processor" heading. (Directly next to the picture )

i ran CPU-z and it says I have Intel Pentium D 820, Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHZ and the socket is "socket 775 LGA
