Doesn't matter if Dell hides any facts in the so call Apples to Apples comparison spec sheet. I know you could build a laptop cheaper and higher performance than what Apple could offer *period*

Apple owners still haven't figured out that their computers are actually EXACTLY the same as PC's with the exact same main components (if not cheaper in fact on a per component basis such as Video card) with a little bit different OS. To boot they are much more expensive and completely proprietary. And they wonder why they will never break a 10% market share... because 90% of the population of computer users are actually pretty smart and dont buy into the marketing genius of Apple.

Good luck with that

No but because 90% of the population can not afford to purchase MacBook Pros, hence they buy $500 laptops with sub-par configurations but something that can still help them do their daily work.

am not saying everyone should buy MacBook Pros, but using your reasoning to say that Apple's product is trash is stupid as hell.

That means that Porche makes bad cars, because only small percentage of people buy them.

Bravo, genius!

I just bought a refurbished Studio 17 with 1080p RGB-LED screen, i5-520m. Screen is gorgeous and far superior to the Macbook Pro's...runs Ubuntu beautifully. All for $950. Sure, battery life isn't the same and it's not quite as light/thin, but is that worth >1K extra? Errrgh my girlfriend just bought a MBP 13" today... Hurts my heart.

I own the 13' MBP too, its a great buy. I paid $1100, so is $150 more worth than the DEll laptop? Absolutely, especially since I travel a lot and I need somehting thats light, sturdy and has a great battery life.

Since when goes just specifying the amount of video memory instead of the graphic chipset used is an advantage?
Sure you can have a 1024mb GeForce 9600GT but is it better than a Radeon 5770 512Mb?
Thats kind of lame to say your intel M4500HD has 1024Mb of memory so its better than a 512M GeForce 330m no?

It's funny because you're wrong. Apple got exclusive 1066 Mhz FSB C2D's while everyone else got 800 Mhz FSB parts. Apple got custom intel CPU's for the Macbook Air. Apple uses 8 and 10 bit S-IPS LCD panels while everyone else uses 6-bit TN panels. Sorry guy, but you don't know about computers.

😀 I agree! However, try to haul around 2 kids and 2 dogs in a "fun" car! I do have a classic Mustang in the garage... does that redeem the grocery-getter? Also have a truck... I guess that makes me a redneck too, eh?

[citation][nom]wotan31[/nom]Yeah I just googled it. It's a Toyota minivan. Lame.[/citation]

no its not its a lexus...i had the rx300 which at the time was one of the best (much better then the ml) and after driving it for 3years no ralttling and no mechanical problems...the car never failed (thank u toyota)...cant say the same for many cars out there....cadillacs fords all rattle after awhile

If you ignore weight, size, and battery, it certainly comes out ahead. No doubt there. There are some other nice things about the MBP's too that aren't equivalent. As someone pointed out, the equivalents to Mac Book Pros for Dell are the Precision Mobile Workstations. But they are bigger, heavier, and similar in price.

[citation][nom]maestintaolius[/nom]We supply automotive electronics OEMs and I can tell you with 100% certainty Lexus is just a fancy Toyota. Yes, the Lexus (Lexi? Lexuses? Lexusi?) come with more sound proofing and a few things like trim but they still come from the same factories and are mostly produced on the same lines and several of them share the same frames and many of the same electronics. What you'll find is that you can take a Toyota and get all the bells and whistles and it'll be almost the same in cost, trim, features and cost as the base model equivalent Lexus model. Granted, I'm not saying the 80k fully equipped Lexus is going to compare to the 35k fully equipped Toyota. They won't allow you to put the V8 engine or the 8-speed transmission in the Toyota model (and it's not that they can't, it's just that they won't). But, you're fooling yourself if you're thinking it's not a Toyota. If you compare the 35k Lexus to a 35k Toyota, you'll find that they're largely similar with only slight tweaks here and there and share many of the exact same parts.DISCLAIMER: I don't drive Jap cars (I won't deny that a Lexus is a nice car), go German or go home.[/citation]

i think the build quality is better aswell...i know its the same parts but you notice the difference when u sit in a toyota and lexus...everything is perfect inside a lexus imho better then mercedes
i rather jap they are really reliable and thats important for me....germans are not suited for where i live...lot of bumpy roads...bmw is too hard a ride and mercedes is great and all but they keep breaking down...its like all that technology they stuff in the car isnt mature enough yet....germans do have great build quality and makes nice road going cars...ford europe is great too...its crazy that ford america and europe have such different standards its crazy

LOL the C2D with 1066MHz where exclusive to Apple? You should go here:
http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=26548&MarketSegment=MBL

No apple never got faster CPUs, they have exactly the same CPUs as in the PCs the only difference is the CPUID. The i7 on the macbook pro is also faster than any of the ones on the pc. Oh way, the macbook pro doesn't have quad core i7's.

Not a single apple laptop uses S-IPS panels, they use TN panels like everybody else. Also Apple never used S-IPS on it's products they use IPS panels.

I will give Dell points for trying this. But I think most Apple fans have already made up their minds. I saw a review on a Sony laptop with BluRay i3 Intel and dedicated graphics. It trumps Apple's MacBook Pro on everything yet costs $800. But what Sony, Dell ,HP and other PC makers have yet to understand is the Apple marketing engine that convinces potential buyers to buy Apple because they are better. Dell can take a stand by putting it in Black and White. But they really need marketing like they did with the successful Dell Dude.

The argument of Quality can only go so far. Especially since most computers are made in China. You could argue possible that Apple uses better quality factories in China and buys premium parts. But its been proven that this is not always the case. In fact Apple has used the cheap TN laptop screens in their MacBooks and they could not produce any better color then a Dell. I think though if your a Apple fan you will convince yourself that Apple products are better simply because you realized you paid a small premium to buy a Apple product. Not many of us would admit this openly. I could better argue Apple is better with customer support and marketing then say Dell is. That would be much more true and have surveys to back up that argument then to say Apple has better product quality.

[citation][nom]smeker[/nom]Its interesting there is nothing about built quality. Both Toyota and Lexus cars have wheels, doors, seats, and engine but Lexus is Lexus.Salute![/citation]

You chose a bad example. Toyota owns Lexus. That would be the equivalent of saying Alienware is better than an Inspiron. Of course it is, its two totally different price points and target market.

Every one talks about build quality but in my experience, the build quality of the latest Macs is no better than most PCs (graphics card problems, yellow LCD monitors, etc). The only difference is that when your Mac is no longer under warranty, you will pay a premium to fix it. The same goes for cars. Luxury brand cars aren't any more reliable than most regular brands. You pay for prestige and style. It is as simple as that. If the build quality of premium brands is so good why don't manufacturers back it up with a comprehensive long-term warranty. What are they afraid of?

This is where your logic fails. Again, the internals of a Mac are exactly the same as a PC. The Porsche analogy is a complete fail. This is unless you can prove that the Intel I7 in the Mac is better then the exact same Intel I7 in the PC... or the same Nvidia video card is magically better in the Mac then the Dell. Again.. you exemplify the proven psychological theory put forth that Mac users are completely blind to all rational when it comes to their Apples. This is why you are called "fanboyz"

You do realize that Lexus is Toyota. In Japan all those "Lexus" vehicles are Toyotas. Only now is Japan using the Lexus brand in Japan. Just like Scion is Toyota, Infinity=Nissan, Acura=Honda.
